I'm planning on buying an An1x or a NordLead 1. Some say the Nord is
better to create leads that cut through the mix when playing together
with 2 or more guitars. Should I choose the Nord or Yamaha?

I'm a fan of the Nord sound - alway's liked the NL2 (still do) but I went with the AN1x
many years ago as it suited my need for an affordable, multi-purpose controller and
V/A synth. The Leads sounds are very satisfying - particularly those using Hard Sync
and there are passable distortion and Amp simulator effects to beef up the sound.
The cost of a 2nd hand AN1x is rather inexpensive - about $350-400 tops - I don't
think you'd be disappointed. Heck, you can get a new AN200 for $250 on blowout...

FWIW, you might want to check out the Alesis ION and it's just announced spin-off -
the Micron - along with Dave Smith Instruments Evolver (way cool mono-synth.)

Play them both. Each have a nice sound but they're each different.
Also check out the reviews. Keyboard magazine did several VA
shootouts including a direct comparison of the Nord and the AN1X.
AN1X has more features. For the money you could probably get the AN1X
as a controller and afford a few soft synths for the price of the
Nord.

...and buy an impOSCar from GMEDIA with the savings ;-)

Hi,
I want to add here that while I agree the Nords sound cool, I'm not sure
the Lead I can do splits, layers yeah but splits I don't think came into
play until the Lead 2. So there I think the An1x is cooler in that
regard (though the Nords are definitely still cool).

Thanks for your advice!
I think I'll go with the An1x. Haven't had the opportunity to try any
of them out but I think I'll have use for more keys and the split
function during live play. Was a bit scared of the matrix system at
first, but now it seems easier than stepping through menus.
(Eventhough the NL has neither :-)

Hi

I posted 8 leads. I'll post more as I get to them. Make sure you try the ribbon controller.

Thanks
