Poly-AT and other wishes

Poly-AT and other wishes

2003-11-03 by Bruce Wahler

Hi Peter,

> Get a Yamaha DX-1 )

> Get the New Hammond B-3! :)

Get a winning lottery ticket first! ;^)

Seriously, though, if I had poly-AT, I'd want it to work well over MIDI, too, and that's asking a lot. CHANNEL AT can fill up a MIDI file with data; poly-AT is even worse. Do you know if the DX-1 even supported external poly-AT?

And let me rephrase my personal wish: 9-switch operation -- over MIDI, too -- by anyone, ANYONE except Hammond-Suzuki. They are way down on my list of Hammond clones I want.

Regards,

-BW

M-Audio's Oxygen8 MIDI Controller

2003-11-03 by Kevan R. Craft

Oxygen8
USB MIDI Software Controller
$179.95 (MRSP)
The Portable Soft Synth Controller.
Oxygen 8 is a new breed of controller. Designed to meet the needs of today¹s electronic musicians, Oxygen 8 puts you in control of any 8 MIDI-assignable parameters within your favorite software programs. Oxygen 8 is also a USB MIDI interface that speaks directly with your computer without any extra devices. You don¹t need a MIDI interface for this keyboard interface.

Soft Synths
The software synth is here to stay, and along with it comes dozens of parameters begging to be tweeked. Until now you¹ve been trapped with only a single mouse to do everything. Oxygen 8 puts your hands on any 8 parameters of your choice in real time.

Getting Deeper
Oxygen 8 makes it possible for you to get deeper into your software programs, to get more out of them, to experiment and push them to their limits.

"Oxygen8 brings to fruition the concept of the backpack studio. Professional control that is intuitive and powerful. and the knobs feel awesome." Aaron Zilch (American Head Charge Sound Designer)

Live Performance
Oxygen 8 will give you more freedom on the stage than you¹ve ever had before, dynamically increasing the possibilities available to you.

Programming Drums
Instead of taking hours to program drums with a mouse, use Oxygen 8 to play grooves into your program in real time. Use the 8 knobs to manipulate the dynamics, feel, and FX.

Hardware Access
Synthesists can use Oxygen 8 to gain access to, and to automate parameters that exist deep within their hardware, making it easier to get more out of them without having to navigate through dozens of menus.

MK-461C USB

2003-11-03 by Kevan R. Craft

MK-461C USB
61-Key USB MIDI Keyboard Controller with
9 Sliders, 12 Knobs, and 10 Buttons
$329.99 MSRP

The MK-461C is the flagship model for the Evolution line, featuring 9 assignable 35mm sliders, 12 assignable rotary knobs, 10 assignable buttons and 61 full-size touch sensitive keys, giving computer music enthusiasts extreme hands-on control of their software and hardware. Even the pitch bend and modulation wheels are both fully assignable, as is the sustain pedal input—adding up to an incredible 34 assignable controllers.

The MK-461C’s unique controller mute function mutes the output of all controllers, allowing you to position them before tweaking, thereby eliminating jumping filters or levels during your performance. The keyboard also features a drawbar mode for the 9 faders, which greatly enhances the experience of playing virtual instruments such as Native Instruments’ B4 Organ.

The MK-461C ships with 10 pre-configured settings, making it instantly usable with today’s most popular plug-ins, virtual instruments and host applications. Creating your own custom setups is also quick and easy, as all 34 real-time controllers can be programmed via the numerical keypad. Each controller can also be set up to transmit on separate MIDI channels, and complete setups can be stored in any of the 10 memory locations.

In addition to standard controller numbers, the MK-461C has RPN/NRPN and pre-programmed Sys-Ex messages for real-time access to parameters beyond immediate reach on products such as SoundBlaster, XG and GM-compatible soundcards. The Sys-Ex dump command allows the entire content of the memory to be sent from the keyboard to a location of your choice. A librarian program for PC users is included for saving, editing and sharing keyboard setups.

The MK-461C connects to a PC or Mac using the included USB cable. The keyboard can be powered via USB, or alternatively with an optional power supply. As with all Evolution controllers, the MK-461C is Class Compliant, so no drivers are required when using Windows XP or Mac OS X.

The conventional MIDI output on the back of the keyboard has been included for operation with traditional MIDI gear or non-USB computer setups. Used in USB mode, the MIDI output acts as a USB to MIDI output interface.

Features:
Function buttons make programming quick and easy, even while you're playing >Independent channel assign for all 34 controllers
Controller mute function mutes the output of all controllers so you can position before tweaking
Backlit LCD display clearly shows controller information
10 MIDI assignable buttons also act as a data entry pad
Global channel assign allows controllers to command up to 16 different channels at the touch of a button
Snap Shot mode sends out current status for all controllers
10 memory locations for storing user setups
Memory dump facility
Sys-Ex librarian software allows PC users to load, save, send and receive studio setups
MIDI-assignable pitchbend and mod wheels facilitate thumb control effects
Separate octave shift buttons provide instant access to 10 octaves

RE: [AN1x] Poly-AT and other wishes

If you're not sure you can download the manuals in *.pdf format and read abiut the product before you buy..

http://www.m-audio.com/products/midiman/keystations.php

http://www.m-audio.com/products/evolution/index.php

Makes interesting reading..

In my past job I've used all these USB controllers and they're all good for the money..

I still think the Oxygene8 is a good size.. In fact I've started to convince myself to acquire one instead of getting really heavey Motif out every time I want to do some sequencing in SONAR..

I guess it would really depend on what you are doing. I like using my s-80 for most of that to sonar.
The more I look, I still go back to this one.

Absolutely it did. The original QX7 MIDI sequencer module from Yamaha
had poly aftertouch analysis and filtering specifically for that
reason; it was removed on later models after the DX1 passed into
legend.
