That's the AN1X ribbon controller. The ribbon controller arbitrarily decides whether to hold the last finger position or revert back to the preset setting based on the parameter being modified, how much it's modified, and the phase of the moon. I have yet to figure out when it will do this or why. Wouldn't it be nice to have a little switch to turn this feature on and off? "Is there a possibility to disable this f....ng Ribbon Controller on the left side? I play for a while and then the sound gets like interrupted (short, without release) till I press some times the Ribbon (I heard that I have to press on the right side-above) and then I can play for a while till it comes again. And again, and again...." If the ribbon controller does this on its own, you've never touched the ribbon controller, then your ribbon controller is broken. Also--the AN1X is not analog. It is a virtual analog synthesizer. It's modeled on the Prophet 5. Since Dave Smith both designed the Prophet 5 and worked on Yamaha's physical modeling team for awhile, the AN1X sounds a lot like an old Prophet. It's all micro chips. This is actually better than analog as you get a nice stepping effect when you adjust the filter and at times you can get nice aliasing effects.Unfortunately, unlike analog, the AN1X stays in tune unless you program the tuning to drift. Hey guys. Mind you I have no problem sounding lame and/or making idiotic questions. Again, I am an alt/indie guitarrist songwriter with zero knowledge of what is "true" to this scene. But I've ALWAYS had a thing for the analogue Moog-ish-full-of-knobs-to-tweak-and-make-crazy-sounds stuff. An1x is my first.
And I love to learn the right stuff
Why oh why the above statement? I mean, yeah, I love Sonic youth's weird sonic untuned stuff... but with such keyboards isn't that effect achievable with detune assigned to a knob?
Isnt that like saying "Yeah, I love that guitar because it cant hold tune? or the strings got out of tune after a while, isnt that cool?" - I have read, long before joining this group, that is one main characteristic of the real vintage circuitries - but never thought it would actually be a desired feature... and if it is, an algorythm for that would take up 10 minutes of the programmers time and (my guess) would be included as a "as close to the real thing as it can be".
I am confused, as often :)
cheers

Hmmm, I am confused. DSP, programming...... ?????? In the manual (Technical specification), is nothing mentioned about DSP´s, or so. Just VCF, VCO, FM, .... (like the analog lockers), 10 Voices... etc.. The modelling seems to be the same (similar). The size got reduced to Chips. So it sounds. Like all Virtual Analog, flat, chiselling, brzzz. Thats the size. Smaller circuits are sounding smaller. But DSP´S??? Like the Chamaeleon? The AN1x is like the Chamaeloen?? I will give it away.... I don´t want talk any further :-) I like this AN1x. It is a playable keyboard with a Perfect Keyboard. Kind Regards, Daniel Mandic [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
