Yep, the skull knobs look cool, but are expensive.

I took off the silver knobs that came on my AN1x and carefully
inspected them all.....they definitely were not painted over. Looks
like they were molded that color originally.

The silver knobs were released by Yamaha as a promo item for one of the
CS synths, most probably the 2x. I was working in a music shop at the
time and tried to persuade my then boss that she should let me have them
for the AN1x I had purchased from her not long before getting the job -
so no discount :-( Couldn't persuade her to part with the knobs either,
so they are probably still lost somewhere in her office. Although on
reflection I think I prefer the black knobs, I've always thought black
synths look more cool anyway ;-)

On the knobs subject, I don't like the knobs -- they seem pretty flimsy
and are not very aesthetically appealing, IMHO. Of course, whoever had
this thing before me must have banged on them pretty well, as I've got
to get three of the pots replaced, so that's a factor.

I assume the rods coming out of the pots are standard sizes, and I can
get different knobs that will fit. Anyone know if this is true? I'm
also missing the knob for the function selector. Another factor is that
I don't really wanna pay what they probably cost, based on the fact that
replacement pots are over $7 apiece from Yamaha. Planning on getting
some metallic knobs if I can -- I think they would look nifty.

Hello,

u can use any sort of knobs on the AN1X
but ...
funny enough if u get a common D shaped fit
they will look misplaced by 180 deg ..
yamaha must have done this on purpose
also on my EX5 i have the same problem !
or maybe this is like A and B on potmeters
log lin in rest of world but lin log in Japan :-)

so u need one type that can be tighthen from the caps top
u can see an examples on the first pulse
in my rack

http://home.wanadoo.nl/atoni/Studio/rack3.jpg

that type of knobs also fits in the an1x and u can
point the arrow in any direction u want ..
