Silver vs. Black Rotary Knobs?

Silver vs. Black Rotary Knobs?

2003-06-08 by Steve

I just picked up a used AN1x in great condition. This particular
unit has silver rotary knobs, and not black ones like I have always
seen on the AN1x. They don't appear to be spray painted or otherwise
colored by a previous owner. Did some units ship with silver knobs
from the factory? I can only imagine so. Also, the knobs are
identical in shape to the originals I've seen on another AN1x. I
know this is trivial, but I'm just curious about it.

Also, the power supply is a very "substantial" unit itself,
consisting of a very heavy transformer with the barrel connector at
the end of one cable, and a regular 2-prong power cord coming out the
other end (and not a wallwart power supply). Is this the standard
power supply that shipped with the AN1x? A friend with an AN1x told
me that he just had a standard wallwart power supply that came with
his AN1x. Again, just trivial, but I'm curious. Thanks!

I've never heard of an AN1x with silver knobs. I suspect these knobs are from another product -- the CS1x/CS6x, maybe? -- that someone added because they liked the look.

That sounds like the stock power supply, the PA-3/PA-3B.

Sounds it has the knobs of a CS2x, for some reason or other.

Mine is the wall wart type.

As is mine, and it even has the Yamaha logo on it. Perhaps they sold
these with a few different power supplies?

I just checked the model number on the power supply and it's a Yamaha
PA6 (and definitely NOT a wall wart!).

Still puzzled about why I have silver knobs....but I like 'em!

I think the difference may be US vs UK spec. My UK AN1X power supply is a
wallwart KPA3. I also have a DD55 drum machine I bought here and it uses a
US supply PA-6. The PA-6 is huge, and sits in the middle of the power lead.
Both are c.12V DC output and should work with AN1X, though different Amp
rating.

As somebody already mentioned, the silver knobs were likely swapped
from a CS2x - or somebody used spray paint to alter them. This is
easy enough to accomplish - you could probably remove the Mod and
Pitch wheels and customize those as well.

Pedant mode: the knobs on the CS2x aren't silver, only its case is.
The knobs are translucent blue and would look hideous on an AN1x.

I took off the silver knobs that came on my AN1x and carefully
inspected them all.....they definitely were not painted over. Looks
like they were molded that color originally.
