re:was matrix 12, now analog sound

I really want a Matrix 12 but until then the AN1X will have to do. I find the AN1X sounds very good through a tube amp. It warms the sound up. I also find the AN1X sounds better as a poly synth than a lead synth. Still I played for hours yesterday, bassess, leads, pads, comps-sounded close enough-again through a tube amp. For leads I find the Aural exciter and the compressor both add a little bite. I also find the synth has so many options that it's easy to lose the sound. Some of the best patches are real simple-an oscillator or two, no effects. As I start adding effects and more oscillators the sound gets too pretty. The ribbon controller can add a little expressiveness to the sound.Using the ribbon controller for the filter and just tapping it while playing staccato chords gives a nice subtle change to the sound. Check out the latest Keyboard magazine. Some nice patch tips. When recording, if you have to run the AN1X direct, try to use a tube preamp-ART makes a nice one, and roll some of the high end off with an eq. For effects-the echo adds a nice cheesy cheerful sound. The guy I record with has an ancient Yamaha SPX 90 same basic principal as the AN1X-if you want lovely metalic cheesy sounds turn it up.
