With difficulty. I was using as a controller for a Yamaha EX5R rack
mount, but it is no comparison to the EX5 keyboard I have now. I also
think that, even though the keyboard is more than decent, it is not of
enough quality to be your one and only controller.

Having said that, I know of several people on this list who are very
happy with the AN1x in this capacity.

I didn't want to reply to this at first due to the "my package is bigger
than yours" responses that seem to develop from this type of query...
BUT - I did buy the sampler advertized on the cover of the AN1x manual.  ;-)
The A3000 can accept like 6 midi routings for modulation.  The effect I like
best is real-time tempo change, which I just assign to the same knob as I've
routed tempo to in the AN.  So I can speed up an arpeggiation/sequence along
with the loop in the sampler simultaneously.  Serious fun.
