is $530 a good deal for an AN1x than CS2X?

is $530 a good deal for an AN1x than CS2X?

2000-06-27 by Hank Weinhardt

Hi,

I was wondering if $530 is worth spending on a mint,
but used, AN1X. I saw it in a pawn shop and thought I
could compromise. But if I can't, would it be too
much to spend? And I don't know quite how many people
know about this AN1X in the shop, so the sooner the
answer is, the sooner I'd be able to put my mind at
ease.
I never heard the AN1X in action, but I did hear
the CS2x and I love the string patches and was
assuming that the AN1X would either equal or exceed
the quality of the CS2x's patches. But I also did
hear that polyphony determines the quality of the
sustain of string patches and considering that the
CS2X has 64 note polyphony while the AN1X has 10, I
got confused.
But then again, many arrows point to AN1X as the
superior piece in terms of sounds. Thanks.

RE: [AN1x-list] is $530 a good deal for an AN1x than CS2X?

2000-06-28 by Sama

hello...
what you got to keep in mind is that aN i "AN1x" stands for "analog",
wich means that synth allows you to programm your sounds, from
the basic algorithm (ie: frequencie) to the shape it has (LFOs,A-D-S-R and
much more..)
Yamaha managed to bring a good tool, with a totally assignable front pannel
for realtime
editing.
As the original vintage synth ( from Mr Moog's to the Bassliner ) the An1x
doesn't
have an enormous polyphony capability, but allows two different sounds
"only" to be
played at the same time.
The CS2x is the little brother of the cS1x..It is not the same kind of gear
at all..
It is a numeric synth (same kindas the MC303..in bigger) wich means the
sounds are
in that case, waveforms (Aka "XG"set)provided by the manufacturer.
The cs2x has 779XG voices and 30drum kits. so it is more likely to be use
as an
expander.
What differences between that two kind of hardware?
it depends on what you want to do; most of musicians would tell you that
they own
an analog synth and a numeric one..It's up to you to decide what you want
to start with.
Or if it is polyphony and multitimbral ability that is your main
problem, watch for
the new Alesis A6, but it won't be at the same price..
Well, that's in brief what I can tell you, you'll certainly have other
answers of
the same kind.
I hope these informations helps you out.

I hate tell you, but AN1x's are super cheap Brand New now. I paid 479
for mine from Sam Ash. As far as the An1x sounding like a CS2x, that
synth is sample based, and the An1x is analog modeling. Entirely
different beasts. However the An1x is an amazingly powerful synth.

2000-06-28 by Philip

You can't get AN1X's brand new anymore unless a random
store might have one. I know of one store here in
Dallas, Brook Mays, that has one, but they're selling
it for around $700 (too much). $530 is about $30 more
than most people pay for a used AN, but look at it
this way--at least you get to give it a hands-on
tryout before buying a used one without seeing or
playing it first.
Cheers,

Now, if you can hook up anyone else with a $479 AN1x new from Sam Ash...
we'll all believe you. When I called them last year when looking for mine
and they said they had none, and were getting in no new shipments. This is
the story all over the US (unless Yamaha has changed their mind and started
making them again).

Go with the $530! You won't regret it.

Re: [AN1x-list] is $530 a good deal for an AN1x than CS2X?

2000-06-28 by tspeer

Hank,

That is a good price for an AN1-x.
But make sure you buy the AN1-X for the right reasons (To make analog
sounds/synth sounds - not strings).
An An1-x has limited polyphony- good for 1 (maybe 2 ) parts in a song.
Go Play the AN1-x ...you may fall in love and buy it.

If you do buy it and change your mind- you can always post it for sale
here...I'm sure it will easily find a new home.

It all depends on how bad you want an An1x... We allready have one in the studio and I wanted one for my home studio, the lowest I could find a used one for was ^00 - 650... thats was e-bay, the news groups and harmony central. So I paid $650 and I'm really happy as I love the sound of the An1x and it paid for itself on the first piece of comercial work I did!
Cheers
Grant.

I'd love another AN1x for $534... don't assume places have them cheaper.. right now no-one has new An1x's so the used market is the place to go... and a lot of people in the used market know what they are worth $600+ !
cheers

Bulugbugbugba...
I just come
home, and the first mail in box is from myself..I believe I sent a message
to the whole list,
that was not my goal. Now, everybody's aware the AN1x is an analog synth.I
just can't keep something secret..
so, Hank, go, get it..forget about strings, make acidcore that stomps over
junglebeats...eveybody should.

PS: I took my international currency converter..with one US dollar at
6.8ff,it makes
you 3600francs or so and it's to my opinion a good deal...I bought myne
4000F new .

+: general purpose :if you find an AWE64 at 200FF,beware of the Midi port's
health..sometimes,it has problems...
believe me...
'next time.

No really, I'm not lying, when I bought mine, there was a stack of about
5 on their display floor. The store near my house had one still on
display up until maybe 3 months ago. Sorry. ; )

Ok OK, perhaps it actually depends on our weak rate of exchange. Maybe you
better decide to travel to Europe for a shopping trip. ;-)

Howie,

That is an unrealistically low price. You obviously
walked in to one hell of a deal and I congratulate you
for it. I haven't seen them cheaper than $450 (US
dollars) secondhand.

I think $530 is a pretty fair price. I paid $550 for mine used and I feel I
got an awesome deal considering what I've been able to do with it. Plus,
pawn shop prices are usually quite negotiable. I'd get up there and do some
bargaining ASAP.
