User Equipment List

2003-01-21 by DMANX@talk21.com

Hello All,
Please can everyone on this mail list, post what equipment and software they use in their studios including pc/mac specs.
Now,with all this equipment and software, is it posible to do everything with minimal gear/software like just using a an150/an1x/an200,or just reaktor/reason.The question I am asking is that why are home/pro studios so full of gear,is their a need for it? Is there anyone on here that keeps buying lots of software/outboard gear, and not knowing or have the time to learn to use it.
However,an euipment list would be cool....just for interest.
Regards Dmanx.

Roland D-110 (the most obtuse machine I've ever used, I hate it)
Korg MS-20 (never used it - shame)

Drum machines:

Korg DDD-1 with cards

Effects:
Digitech S100
Alesis NanoCompressor
Alesis MicroGate
Distortion pedal

Mixer:
Yamaha MX12/4

Computer:
Ummm, an old PC, with some RAM and, er, other stuff

Rebirth
Reason
FruityLoops

Other stuff:
Cavendish Viscount Mascot organ

Give it all up and go back to playing the drums
At least I knew what I was doing then
Oh, to recover those magical teenage years, eh?

Well...honestly...nowadays you can pretty much do everything with a
good Audio PC and software like Reaktor, Reason, Fruity Loops, or you
can do pretty much a lot with a DX200/AN200/SU200...but those
combinations might not work for everyone. So what people have at home
studios are mostly what they need, what they like to produce in a for
them comforting way. I e.g. don´t like software sequencer, that´s why
i am mainly working with the RS7000. HD Recording i´ll do at the
moment with CoolEdit (will upgrade to WaveLab Light and Ableton
Live).

Also once you started to buy gear...you wind up getting G.A.S....Gear
Acquire Syndrome...

Some people really go to the extreme with that...

Less is more, IMO.

Yamaha AN1x
Ensoniq ASR-X Pro
(I host the ASRXCITE web site at
http://www.geocities.com/asrxcite)

Mackie 1202 mixer
Opcode Studio 128x MIDI Interface
Echo Gina 20-bit audio interface
Yamaha Multimedia speakers

Power Mac G3 (many tweaks & upgraded components) w/
external Iomega Zip and Yamaha CDRW on the SCSI chain...

Logic Audio 5.5 w/ ES1, EVP88 (better than my sample library!),
& (soon) EXS24 (me freebie, demo period is up.)

Native Instruments BATTERY (used less often - too many
annoying bugs - gone back to my ASR-X Pro)
Native Instruments ABSYNTH (used infrequently - great for
unique, atmospheric and rythmic/looping sounds - time
consuming to program original patches.) Kind of perplexed at
NI's habit of ignoring bug fixes to the existing product line while
releasing more product spin-offs - don't see myslef buying more
of their stuff soon.

Propellerheads ReBirth (shelfware - never use it anymore)
Propellerheads ReCycle (don't get to use it as much as I'd like
too.)

BIAS Peak SE (an old version I still use for SMDI transfers to the
ASR-X Pro)

Yamaha:
AN1x
EX5S (silver)
01v (mixer)

Two old PCs, both of which I don't use (yet?) for music.

Hello All,
Please can everyone on this mail list, post what equipment and software

Now,with all this equipment and software, is it posible to do everything
with minimal gear/software like just using a an150/an1x/an200,or just
reaktor/
reason. The question I am asking is that why are home/pro studios so full
of gear,is their a need for it? Is there anyone on here that keeps
