Newbie Question

Newbie Question

2002-12-03 by Warren Herron

Hello to the group!
Just got my AN1x in the mail! Great board! But you all know that....
I've read through the manual once (which isn't going to be enough,
obviously) and can't find - or just missed - the command to switch off
program changes being sent by the AN1x. Every time I change a patch on
the AN it is switching my ESQ-ms to another patch. I really don't want
it doing this at this point. Can somebody clue me in on how to get it
to stop? It is very annoying...
I've been trying to get the synth into some kind of reasonable setup...
It's in mint condition, but whoever had it before has changed some very
weird settings... Master tune to 85! Sending midi on channel 8... Uh...
Might be why they decided to sell... Doesn't look like the manual has
ever been opened. No telling what else is screwy... Anyway, looking
forward to getting into the beast... I already love what I've seen and
that isn't much so far... Amazing sound... Very pleased to get one!!!
Picked it up for $369. Unbelievable value... Slightly manic gear
rush... Very cool!

	Thanks for the help...

There is no way to do this on the AN1x itself. You need to filter out the messages externally, either through a PC program, the filtering capabilities of your patchbay (if they exist), or by using a filtering and routing device, such as the MIDI Solutions Router.

You've probably already read Bruce's reply - Patch Change
commands cannot be disabled. However, you might check the
ESQ-m to see if it can be set to ignore PAtch Change
commands. Alternately, you could always change the MIDI Tx
channel on the AN1x to an unused ESQ-m channel...

You could perform a factory reset to restore the default settings:
Hold down the '7', '8', & '9' buttons while powering up the AN1x -
choose option 9 and reply YES to restore the factory settings.

Hey Warren,
Congrats on the new synth. I got mine a year ago and I still love it
just as much as when it was new. Go to the files page and download some
patches. If you use the editor, it's really easy to load them up. I didnt
realize just how capable this synth was until I loaded up some of the other
patches. It's really incredible and way under rated by the synth community.
Also, with the editor, you can audition patches without overwriting any
memory locations on your synth. Then you can just pick and choose which ones
you want to keep and save them as you go along. So what are you planning to
use it for? Live or studio? Have fun!
                                                                      Eric

Hello again!
Thanks for the tips and the positive vibes... Well, actually, I am a
fairly poor player. So, live playing is definitely out. I have this
inability to play things quite the same way twice... I'd be a disaster
live... Can't remember music... Great quality for somebody who loves
music... Geez... Just not wired for it... I am so totally not capable
for that... Hats off to all of you who can do it - I am impressed. I
more or less ramble around on the keyboard and experiment with things a
lot. I love tweaking with sound design and once in a while sequence
something, usually in the electronica category. Mostly I play these
things just to take my head somewhere else for a while. Nothing else
really does that for me. My own sort of Zen meditation...

Got to get back to exploring :) So much to learn...

Newbie Question

2005-09-11 by fai31188

Long time lurker, long time piano player, newbie with Analog and VA stuff....

I just bought my An1x a few weeks ago. I have been able to load some sounds onto my
board, but for the life of me I can't find a way to send the current voices to my computer to
store/save. I am running Tiger and use Digital Performer 4.6 as my sequencer. Is there a midi
librarian/editor that I can use in OSX to transfer voices back and forth from my computer?

TIA

aL

Hi aL,

You have a couple of options for OS X.

You could simply put DP into record mode and perform a bulk dump from the AN1x of a
single voice, or many voices, and then save as a standard MIDI file (SMF) .MID

Or you could one of the freeware SysEx Librarians for OS X.

There is one named SysEx Librarian from
http://www.snoize.com/SysExLibrarian/

There is another simpy called MIDI Dump from
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/mpergand/applis/midi_dump/en/midi_dump.html

My preference is for SysEx Librarian.

You could run the freeware AN1xEdit editor/librarian under Classic. If you are running
Panther and use a USB MIDI Interface with native drivers you can successfully use AN1xEdit
to edit and store Voices. This will probably work under Tiger too, but it does not work
under Jaguar. I've posted specifics on this topic to the list more than once. If you're
interested, I'll try to find the specific thread(s) so I don't have to rewrite it ;-)

I've tried out the editor/lib from MIDIQuest, but never made the time for either beta
releases of SoundDiver under OS X - pretty sorry considering I'm a Logic user :-P

Jon, thanks for your reply. I used DP to load and dump
the voices on my An1x. I also downloaded the SySex
Librarian, but haven't played with it yet.

Thanks again for your response. It was a great help...
