Just a thought.

1) turn off ALL effects. Make everything full dry and make sure effects are
off.
2) Disconnect ALL MIDI cables.
3) Make a new patch, a very basic one. See if the problem is still there.

If that doesn't work, I would try a full reset of the AN1X to factory
settings.
You also didn't mention (that I saw..I could have missed it) if the same
thing is happening in the headphones. Plug them into the jack and check it
out. If it IS happening there too it is a system thing. If it is fine in the
headphones it sounds like it is isolated to the outputs. In that case either
get it repaired, or open up the AN1X yourself, get an ohmeter, or simply
visually check the wiring and check if it all lookes okay check for "cold
solder joints" which look dull as opposed to the shiny good kind..but it can
be hard to see. If you get that far you might use a solder iron and see if
you can resolder the connection...but be careful...too much heat can damage
a chip if it is connected and near or just too near the iron.

I hope this helps!

Jim

Thanks Jon!
I took it to my local dealer and apparently there's a little resistor that
helps in the amplifier stage on each output. The one for the left channel is
"gone" and needs to be replaced. It's a Yamaha specific part. SO, now I am
without the AN1x for 2 weeks :-( and after an estimate of $60CAD.

Hello Jaish,

I haven't experienced the problem you describe with my AN1x
however, it's been mentioned on the list before. I'd advise you to
search the list archives http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AN1x-list I
don't recall a specific, one cure fits all, solution to the problem. I
would assume a hardware repair needs to be affected by a
Yamaha Service Center.

I have no data or proof to back up my opinion but I believe the
problem you describe might be the advanced result of the
audible 'popping and crackling' bug which affected any number
of AN1x synthesizers when the unit was relatively new back in '97
& '98. My unit was affected and Yamaha readily acknowledged it
as a hardware issue. I had the repair performed while under
warranty and have not had any issue since. Of course I may very
well be wrong but that's my take on the problem ;-)

Hope this helps.

regards,

Jon

Cool beans! $60 CAD isn't outrageous - most of it is labor
anyway...it's money well spent, IMO :-)

Jon
