new here.. an1x question

2002-10-13 by nathan killtangle

hello

i just recieved an an1x about 3 days ago.. and it is making this awful
popping/feedback anytime and everytime i hit a key, or when i just sit there
staring at it. either way it makes this pop... i have read the archives on
this, but i don' think there is anyway i can get this fixed from yamaha.. so
here's the question, could a normal music store fix this problem assuming
they knew exactly was wrong, or am i out of luck.. thanks everyone, great
group here.

Nathan:

Welcome. Several of us have experienced this. There are ways around
it. It was discussed in this thread:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AN1x-list/message/5285

Briefly, it seems to happen to "morph" patches (i.e. when both scene
buttons are lighted) expecially on cold days. The post explains what
I do to get around the problem. Please let me know if this doesn't
work for you. There may be something else.....

Cheers,

Jerry

I don't understand - why do you say "i don' think there is anyway i
can get this fixed from yamaha.. "?

I suppose it's feasible - depending on what the faulty component
might be. I suspect mainboard repairs would need to be
addressed by Yamaha at one of their facilities.

Jon

Re: new here.. an1x question

I've emailed YCA on more than one occasion. I would typically
receive an automated reply acknowledging my question is in
their queue and a proper reply followed within 24 hours.

When I had my AN!x serviced to correct the 'popping and
crackling' bug my now-defunct and out of business ex-vendor
was giving me fits in regards to having the board serviced. I
called Yamaha myself and they were extremely helpful. In the
AN1x Owner's Manual, following the Index, is a list of addresses
and numbers for Yamaha. I called the 714.522.9011 number for
Yamaha in CA. Since I'm on the east coast shipping and
handling added two weeks to the whole affair. I've had no
problems since then (going on 4 years now.)

regards,

Jon
