AN1x

2002-10-08 by Chada, Jaish

Hi.
I was wondering if anyone experienced trouble with their AN1x outputs? That
is, all the sounds coming out are pure and undistorted, but the Left output
is significantly lower volume than the right output. Does anyone know how
much a problem like this might be to fix?

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
-Jaish

Hello Jaish,

I haven't experienced the problem you describe with my AN1x
however, it's been mentioned on the list before. I'd advise you to
search the list archives http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AN1x-list I
don't recall a specific, one cure fits all, solution to the problem. I
would assume a hardware repair needs to be affected by a
Yamaha Service Center.

I have no data or proof to back up my opinion but I believe the
problem you describe might be the advanced result of the
audible 'popping and crackling' bug which affected any number
of AN1x synthesizers when the unit was relatively new back in '97
& '98. My unit was affected and Yamaha readily acknowledged it
as a hardware issue. I had the repair performed while under
warranty and have not had any issue since. Of course I may very
well be wrong but that's my take on the problem ;-)

Hope this helps.

regards,

Jon

Thanks J.F.. i was thinking about buying a CD of mellotron sounds produced by Mike Pinder of the Moody Blues, but wasn't sure they'd load to my AN1x

Hi Terry, the AN1x is a virtual analogue synthesizer.  The only way you can load sounds into it, is if they are dedicated MIDI System-Exclusive files, which provide the synth with a set of parameters to alter its sounds (for example, VCO pitch and wave type, filter cut-off, attack rate of amp envelope).  There are many examples of Sysex files you can load into the AN1x in the files section of this group - some of which may include Mellotron emulations, but using the synth's architecture to get close to, say, the Mellotron string or flute sounds.

"Buying a CD of Mellotron sounds" suggests you mean samples, which may well load into your sampler, if they are of the correct format for that model. but you can't load samples into the AN1x.

Hope that helps.
