Try a couple of these tips:

1. No effects-keep the sound bone dry.
2. Run the sound through a bass amp. You might want to try out a bass
P.O.D.if you're feeling rich and you don't want to lug a massive
extra amp with you. Sans Amp is also supposed to work well.
3. Keep the sustain turned way down(0-9), and fiddle with the decay
until the sound gets punchy and percussive.
4. Try turning the VCA feedback up (80s)
5. Try an outboard compressor-the 80s Boss stomp box works nice for
bass.
6. Try a single oscillator patch.

Try the hints listed here:

I play through a sixties Fender Bassman. I bought it used a million
years ago. Almost impossible to dial up a bad bass sound when played
through this amp.

Ed & Jimmy:

Thanks for your help. I found those ideas helped me.

Jimmy, on one of your thoughts, could you clarify?

Are you talking about amp or filter sustain? And you are talking
about doing it to get punch on the attack right? So far I have been
using low sustain levels on the filter but not on the amp. I guess I
have been trying to get a sustainable sound, in order to articulate
staccato and legato notes. (Maybe that's one of the problems) I do
know that sometimes, my timing is sloppy in the way I take my finger
off the key.

Cheers,

Jerry
