Newest An1x user on the net 270902

2002-09-27 by stu_burger

hey,

I think I am the newest user of the An1x in the world at the moment.
I have just bought one for $950 Australian Dollars. Its in mint
condition and was in an elderly english couples home who used it to
play organ with.

Did I get a good deal or what???

I think so as they are quite rare I think.

I am going to use it as my master keyboard as I am new to music
production and thought this would be a decent sound generator as well
as controller keyboard. I am in debt now and cannot buy anything
else for a while although am stoked to have this machine!!!

Any tips would be apprecitated...Cheers

Stuart

Congratulations on your new purchase!

The Annie is a great sound generator, but only dual-timbral. It's also a decent master keyboard; not quite up to the likes of a Roland A-90 or such, but flexible enough for many needs. Some players have complained about the feel of the keyboard, but I quite like it. The eight knobs can be programmed to any MIDI CC#, as well as the pedal inputs.

I find that it's best to use it with local off, with the selector knob at the bottom, which gives immediate access to the Rx and Tx channels, bulk dumps, etc. Alternately, there is a setting that gives access to most of the arpeggiator and sequencer settings.

Regards,

-BW

Hi Stuart,

Excellent deal I reckon. I'm considering selling mine and I'd like at least
AUD$1100, and preferably $1200 seeing it's respected as a modern classic of
the VA world, and the current crop haven't bottomed out yet in their
second-hand prices.

Having said that, you probably don't want to know of a AN1x for AUD$700 then
do you?

http://www.sinetones.com/
http://www.sinetones.com/detail.php?siteid=206

That's just USD$350 / GBP£250!!!

Not to worry though, your deal's great, and the synth is wicked.

If you haven't already, head to the files area of this group's home page and
download the AN1x editor and hundreds, er, make that thousands of patches
that the users on this list have created.

Cheers for the reply.

I am in Perth and am new to music production and am aware of the learning curve although cant wait to be able to do something meaningful as soon as possble. How does one load the downloaded patches to the keyboard.
Are they just trigerred via midi from the hard drive are they?

G,day Stuart,

Go here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AN1x-list/

Look in the link marked "Files" where you'll find folders labeled
"Macintosh" and "Windows" where you'll find "AN1x Edit".

It's a graphical interface for programming the synth from the computer over
MIDI. It also lets you import the numerous patch banks (in another folder
marked "AN1x Voices") and send them to your synth.

Be sure your synth is connected via MIDI both ways (IN-->OUT, OUT-->IN) and
the destinations set appropriately in AN1x Edit.

If you're still stuck, please post back. By the way, my mum has since
retired to Perth, where you originally emigrated to from England, before
coming to Sydney in the late 60s.)

Hi Again,

I have had problems downloading the An1x edit program. I am fairly experienced in downloading and installing programs although when I download it to 'my downloads'
I unzip it and it states that 16 files have been opened and then I go to my downloads and cannot find any further prompts from the set up prgram. Teh zipped file is there and I try again and it says again 16 files downloaded. I cant really find any set up exe or anythin. Is this something that you ahve come across?
Maybe I have to try again .

Hi Phil,

Try looking in your Temp directory, which might not be called "Temp," depending on your Windows settings. You can usually find it by opening a DOS box, then typing SET and hitting the Enter key. There will be a bunch of variables, with two of them called TEMP and TMP.
