Jimmy

AFAIR there are 2 special slots in the MAtrix for contrllling FX params ,
including FX wet dry mix.
Try using them..
(easier with AN1xEdit - they are the rightest ones there on Matrix page)

Correct. In the Ctrl Matrix you can set the VarEF D:W parameter to
the physical controller or CC message number of your choice.
This allows you to dynamically adjust the dry/wet setting of the
Variation Effect.

In addition to the sixteen Ctrl Matrix sets you also have Common
Set 1 and 2 parameters shared by each Scene in a Voice. This
allows you to set Volume, Pan, Delay Return, Reverb Return or
the Variation Parameter to the physical controller or CC
message number of your choice. Unfortunately you are limited to
two of the three FX related parameters using the Commn Sets,
i.e., you can't control the Dly Rtn, Rev Rtn AND Vari parms
simultaneosuly.

As much as enjoy and appreciate the flexibility fo the Control
Matrix I find myself frustrated more often with this type of design
limitation. Another example: as I was working on my Electronic
Organ Voices I had assigned PEG Decay and PEG Depth to
values of 5 and 20 respectively to produce a key click at note on. I
thought it would be interesting to assign the PEG Depth
parameter to Knob 3 via the Ctrl Matrix so the amount of ey click
could be variable. I wanted to limit the Depth range to a value of
32 to restrict the amount of change to a series of values that
would be realistically found on an organ as opposed to a synth.
Unfortunately the Ctrl Matrix permits the PEG Depth value to be
set only to Direct. While this clearly is not a show stopper, IMO it
defeats the point of having a scalable value to begin with!

regards,

Jon

I TOLD you that this synth has some STRANGE behaviors.

Maybe instead of yelling, I should ask Jon if he would start a file folder of
known "bugs, quirks, and seemingly odd" behaviors.

Yeah, not a bad idea. Maybe we should just add a HTML doc to
the Tips & Tricks directory -or not?

If you whip out your handy dandy AN1x Data List and turn to Page
10 you'll see the PEG Depth parm (amongst others both of us
have complained about) are restricted to 'mul' (for multiply) as
opposed to 'add' - the desired behavior. Clearly this is an
intentional design limitation but without explanation it appears to
be arbitrary and unnecessary.

Another weird thing - while working on my E Piano and E Organ
voice banks I couldn't for the life of me recreate the Ribbon
Controller bug?!? Go figure...

So that's two that would make it into the bug list. What else? How
about using a foot pedal to stop/start the Arp/Seq - have to be in
Mode 2 for that trick.

We know about the old audible popping and clicking defect and
how to reconnect a non-responisve Ribbon Controller. We know
about the large SysEx dump size, etc.

What we also need are the EX5 v. AN1x comparison and th
PLG150/AN v. AN1x comparison tables. I've put up some HTML
from the PLG150 spec's in the files section but that about it.

Ideas?

Jon

The AN's Modulation Matrix does rule. And I agree this is a serious
issue with it. The Andromeda (and some other Alesis synths) have a
feature called a tracking generator ro address this issue. It's
essentially a line on an X-Y graph showing how values of modulation
data from a controller like a knob (input) will be sent (output) to
the modulated parameter. This allows you to redefine the input and
output relationships of the modulation sources. So you can even draw
non-linear curves or specify ranges by engaging this device. If you
just wanted a linear relationship you would draw a 45 degree line
ascending.

This sort of feature would do wonders for the felxiblity of Yamaha's
Free EG's as well as the Mod Matrix.

Cheers,

Jerry

You can achieve a similar result using AN1xEdit to program the
FreeEG tracks. There are series of tools which can be used to
'draw' the FreeEG Track Graph - very handy. Of course its not
applicable to the Mod Matrix but still a very useful feature.
