Blank LCD

Blank LCD

2000-06-06 by Edwards, Ed

Does anyone experience the LCD going blank (like empty)? It happens from
remote MIDI data, and not necessarily data sent to that AN's active channel.
The AN continues to play, but there's no patch displayed on the panel. If I
hit any button, the display returns. Anyone else?

Not really, though I had something similar. I think there is some
MIDI loop inside my PC (beats me why) and the display went blank
when MIDI was sent. Actually, it was flashing very fast.

My AN1x had been acting more and more weird over time, but a factory
reset solved the problems. However, if it's on for a while now,
the right channels crackles and then disappears (I've had this
problem before).

I suggest that you make a backup of your AN1x, and then perform a
factory reset. See if that solves your problem. Now someone please
tell us how a factory reset was performed again. :)

Hi Peter

Quote from youself:

"My AN1x had been acting more and more weird over time, but a factory

Probably just a coincidence but I'm experiencing problems with my right channel as well - as it turns out, there's a faulty connection within the output connector itself.

Incidently, I did have a problem a couple of years back when I first got the synth - certain patches would develop nasty 'clicks' and 'pops'. Eventually after re-selecting numerous other patches or factory reset (and hours later) the fault would disappear, only to reappear later on a different patch.

Eventually I was came to the conclusion that the fault was created as the synth was being switched off. It seemed that if a certain patch was STILL sounding as the unit was turned off (eg a string pad with a slow release), as the current 'scene' is automatically 'saved' in order for it to be availale when the unit is first switched on again, some sort of data corruption would take place, (semi) permanently writing to the current patch.

**********************************
My solution: NEVER turn it off the AN1x whilst the current patch is still sounding ie. wait for silence BEFORE hitting the power ON/OFF switch.
**********************************

This may not be the answer, but I haven't experienced any 'clicks' or 'pops' in well over a year.

Has anyone else experienced this pheneomenon?

Does anyone know off the top of their head of a Operating System 'Bug Fix' Update?

[AN1x-list] Factory Reset Instructions

2000-06-06 by Phil

Oh, and for a AN1x Factory Reset (for those who don't have the manuel),

a. Turn OFF the Power.

b. Hold buttons "7", "8", "9" down on the numeric keypad as you turn the
power back ON.

c. The display should read "Fact Set? [1-9]"

Now, you can enter a [NUMBER] corresponding to one of the following:

[1] load voices 1-64
[2] load voices 65-128
[3] load all 128 voices
[4] load all voices sorted by voice category
[5] load user patterns 1-64
[6] load user pattern 65-128
[7] load all user patterns
[8] load system data
[9] loads all voices, user patterns, and system data.

d. Press [+] (YES/ENTER) to confirm.

Good Luck,

Merry Music Making,

Phil

I actually meant the one in the self-test menu. Is that identical
to pressing '9' here?

I believe self-test is initiated by keeping '0', '-' and '+' pressed,
or '1', '2' and '3', while turning on the power.

The self test mode is indeed initiated by keeping '0', '-' and '+' pressed
whilst starting the AN1x. Option "29" then is the same as holding buttons
"7", "8", "9" down on the numeric keypad as you turn the power back ON.

Re: [AN1x-list] Blank LCD

I've had this happen as the result of bogus SysEx dumps. In every
instance I've encountered either the .mid was corrupt or the data
transfer botched up, i.e., using a USB MIDI Interface. These instances
are very rare and it always clears-up with a power off/power on. Never
happens under normal use or with AN1xEdit. Don't know that this is
identical to what you describe.
