Yeah software is the way forward- although I still drool over the idea
of a small analogue modular (god -this is such a 'boy's' list- 'an I wanna
go shark fishing, racing cars and pulling some birds....hahahahahaha!!).

Back to the software, Check out both Ableton's "LIVE" (which is another
very cool Acid like program, but works on a Mac- www.ableton.com),
and Cellsynth (which is a shareware 'NI Reaktor' like synth- and very good
sounding too!!- www.cellsynth.co.uk)- as far as I am aware, these programs
only work on the Macintosh- (but...is this an excuse to get the worlds
greatest platform, bar linux?- hehehehe).

(- I think that's fair?? since both 'Acid' and 'Cool Edit Pro' DON"T run on a
Macintosh!!!?)

Time to get the best out of both worlds...Nord Modular...

I'll second that!- however the nord won't give you that lovely drippy wet
bass sound- although with the skill of the programmers out there, I wouldn't
put it past them- if they were to pvove me wrong.

Not having tried, I wouldn't know. But sn't it funny how that wet
resonant squelch escapes many otherwise competent synthesizers?

Jerry,

I'm not necessarily talking resonance.- I used to have a novation bassstation
keyboard- you know the original one? and that had a lovely Oberheim/ Moog
bass which I had no need for resonance/Q.- The oscillators were digital- but
the filter was analogue and made with dual-transconductive Op amps
(CA3080's???)

But yeah I know what you mean- i'm sure it will all come in 15 years time-
after we get over the current surge of everything 8-bit (I too am a sucker
for all things 8-bit!- but that's another story)

A bit of toipic, but as far as I know, the entire audiopath in the
BassStation (and the SuperBassStation) is analogue, just like the Waldorf
Pulse.

I agree. Although the Nord can't imitate every synth ever built (but with
some work, the "gurus" come really close most of the time), and out of the
box, it's a bit on the cold and hard side (although that can also be changed
with some clever patching), it's the most versatile synth I've ever worked
with. Also, it can be patched to be a 18 knob hardware controller for
softsynths. If I wasn't allowed to have more than one single synth, the
NordModular would be my choise.
