Hello Jan

I use FM a lot. Try setting [42]. I have used this setting numerous times
and it works like a charm(and I mean melodic sounds, not FX from hell). FM
affects pitch and you may want to adjust the pitch of oscs (FM sources).

Sometimes FM doesn\ufffdt seem to do anything.
Tweaking the knobs in SYNC/FM group (algorithm, sync pitch) seem to have
some effect. But as I am no asleep I can\ufffdt try it myself :)

I have no answer for this but am nominating it for the BEST question in a long time!

I am also really interested in the answer. There are lots of knowledgeable folk here and I am sure this will be educational.

Now I'll shut up and see what replies Jaun gets.

Erikki:

This is interesting, but I am confused. Are you talking about using
patch #42 - Hard Brass from the factory set.

Thx,

Jerry

Jerry

I mean the [FM Depth] value 42...
When I "design" sounds I usually just mix and morph scenes from different
patches. I start tweaking and FMdepth value of 42 seems to produce something
musical. Not always but very often.

As FM Sources I usually use fixed or PEG [FM Source 1] and VCOs [FM Source
2]

Cool. I'll try that out. Meanwhile, I am often using FM depth value
of 21. Wonder if there is some relationship?

Cheers,

Jerry
