I have a USB Unitor 8 connected to my MAC and I can't get the effects environment set up properly. Are there any tips? I used it correctly with my old serial 9600 system. How do I cable the AN1x effects environment to Logic? Thanks.

Use the Import Environment -> Layer... command to open the AN1vario.LSO file; Import the layer 'Variation'; On the right hand side of the window of the Vairation envirnoment you'll see an Object named 'Interface' (Modem Port) MTP 12; Copy the AN1x Object from within your existing Environment and paste/replace the Interface object in the Variation Environment. This is the simplest method - don't forget to Save a new Autoload with this env layer in place so you don't have to repeat this exercise. regards, Jon

Thanks for your response Jon. I have done what you recommended and now I can at least hear that I am changing an effect- I'm past step one! But it doesn't seem like I am able to choose any effect. Every time that I select an effect by clicking on one of the buttons underneath the effect parameter strips and I hold a note on the An1x, I hear I pause in the audio (like when switching programs), but I am still only able to get one effect. It is a chorus like effect. Are each of the faders strips like presets, and the effect can be chosen at the bottom by scrolling to the the name of the effect that I want? Am I supposed to be able to choose an effect on the bottom of the screen and hear the results? Are there any parameters to change in the AN1x? Thanks again.

This is a common design limitation of many synths - an the AN1x is no exception. Not many synths allow you to change patches or effect in real time without some audible interuption to the sound output. Those that do offer a work around to this common request typically do so at a signficant cost increase over the MSRP of the AN1x. > but I am still only able to get one effect. It's exactly as you describe - each 'channel strip' is a an AN1x Effect Preset - just click the button underneath the 'channel strip' of the Effect you want to enable. You may then use the 'knobs' on the 'channel strip' for the effect to alter the equivalent parameters for that effect on the AN1x. If you are uncertain whether the correct message are getting through I suggest the following: 1.Double check the Port and Channel settings for your AN1x object, and it's sub-channels, in your Environment. Are they correct? 2. If you select the Vari EF/EQ param on your AN1x under Voice/Common you can see the effect selection change when commands are issued from Logic. 3. If all else fails - place a Monitor in between the output of the Vari layer and your An1x object to see what messages ARE getting through... > Am I supposed to be able to choose an effect on > the bottom of the screen and hear the results? I suggest you spend some time reading Ch. 5 of the Logic manual and download the FREE environment tutorials (PDFs) from Swiftkick.com so that you may become more familar with the environement and its workings. regards, Jon

Unfortunetly I still cannot enable an effect by selecting the environment buttons and faders. I still hear I pause in the audio (like when switching programs) but no effect change. I checked the AN1x and noticed that I was getting a midi buffer overrun error on the AN1x (or something like that). I can however change the effect in the AN1x and use the environment to change the parameters of the effect, but I have to select the correct environment fader for that effect. It's strange that I am getting the midi errors. Maybe it's a unitor in fast mode or USB issue. > > 1.Double check the Port and Channel settings for your AN1x > object, and it's sub-channels, in your Environment. Are they > correct? confirmed > 2. What should the monitor say if I'm sending an effect program change? > I suggest you spend some time reading Ch. 5 of the Logic > manual and download the FREE environment tutorials (PDFs) > from Swiftkick.com so that you may become more familar with > the environement and its workings. I am in the process of doing this. Thanks. best regards, David

Correct me if I'm wrong: When you select a Variation Effect in the Logic Environment the AN1x expereinces a midi buffer overrun error and does not automatically change to the new Effect. However, you CAN alter Effect parameters from the Logic Vari Environment layer channel strip(s) *if* you've pre-selected the Effect on the AN1x. Correct? Since this specific environment layer relies almost entirely on SysEx it's not surprising that you would experience an error at some point. Using SysEx for real time adjustments is a dodgy proposition on ANY synth as SysEx consumes much more of the MIDI bandwidth then simple MIDI CC messages. The fact that AN1x SysEx packets are large (by design) to begin with does not help matters. I would strongly recommend you disable FAST Mode on the Unitor. This may be USB related issue but considering the track record of success, in general, AN1x users have experienced with Emagic MIDI Interfaces this is the best place to start. I've been running an Opcode Studio 128x in MTP emulation mode for months and have had minimal problems with SysEx, Logic and the AN1x. If I find the time this week I'll try to switch the Studio 128x into FAST mode instead and see if I can recreate the failure you report. I suspect I may have to fall back to using OMS w/ Logic Audio for FAST Mode support. regards, Jon
