Change patch in the middle of a tune

Change patch in the middle of a tune

2002-04-03 by Bjorn Standal

Dear listers,

I'm coming to terms with the mono/bitimbral nature of our beloved blue lightning, but can I at least change patches during a song (on the same channel) in Sonar? (I'm not too enlightened, but isn't there something called "Program change" or "Patch change" CC commands? Does anybody have the time to explain a little...)

Regards,
Bjorn Standal

Patches can be changed at any time, even during a song. The method usually doesn't require a MIDI CC command, though; it uses a MIDI Program Change message. In Cakewalk, it's called a "Patch Change" message, or "Patch" for short, and can be inserted just like a note. I don't use Sonar, so I'm not sure what it's called there.

The only thing to watch out for: The AN1x, like many keyboards, cancels all held notes when changing patches. If you wanted to use the Program Change to alter the timbre when playing, you'll have to re-trigger the note(s).

Regards,

-BW

Yes you can/ there is that facility in all good sequencers- but expect a
delay in the AN re-allocating the patch change- and that can be a very long
time especially when something is running in realtime. It's much better imo,
to multitrack the AN- and play the part you want to tweak- live. (if you see
what I mean). The fastest instrument I've got for sudden patch changes is my
Sidstation- which is instant!

Thanks guys for your swift replies. Now that I know it's possible, I can delwe into documentation to actually implement it :-)
