I can add that AN-1x sends Active Sense messages...
though it shouldn't confuse a sequencer ..

Thanks, that's good to know. To be honest...it confuse
me more than it confuse the sequencer. The MIDI-In led
blinks like crazy because my DX7 sends Active Sensing,
which sometimes makes it hard to analyze the incoming
signals visually.

Maybe there is a way to filter that in Cubase?

Wish it was possible to turn it off in the synth
though.

I use the an1x as a master with the cube and it works really well. You can filter just about any midi message out in the cube. Not sure if you can turn it off on the synth.

Umm ..
Yes - I somehow dislike that MIDI LED blinkings too .. (I have also a
Wavestation SR sending this stuff...)
As the LEDs which are blinking are "MIDI IN" Leds , you can't do anything in
Cubase to prevent it (it's the signal coming from Synth to Midi Interface...)

And it's not possible to switch it off in AN-1x...
The same thing goes with MIDI Clock - I like to have it going to all ports ,
so that synths like VIRUS,Q and XT got them for their LFO's/delays and so on
but it doesn't help visualizing MIDI interface either - all of the OUTS are
like ON all the time ...

And BTW - I use my AN-1x as a master in my studio and it's fully fine except
-
aftertouch is too 'steppy' , it has about 16 steps when you rather slowly
press it from 0 to 127..
Otherwise its fine for my needs here (LOGIC Platinum here, plus stuff like
virus/microwave_xt/microq/ultra6400...)

The quality of the keyboard of the AN1x is quite good for its class, but
using it as a master keyboard may be a bit of a challenge.

Things you want in a master keyboard are different zones, output to several
MIDI channels and preferably MIDI out ports, detaching internal voices from
what happens on the keyboard, easily switching keyboard set-ups between
performances, etc. The AN1x doesn't have all this.

I used to use it as a master for my EX5R, before I changed that one for an
EX5, which has all the functions mentioned above, and a decisively better,
semi-weighted keyboard (same as on the Korg Z1 and Triton - as a matter of
fact, Korg uses Yamaha keyboard for their top-range models).

The difference is quite noticeable, and synthesisers have a way of having
their sound intimately linked to their keyboards. Change the keyboard, and
it's not the same thing anymore.

Having said that, the AN1x is an excellent lead synthesiser, and with the
quality and features of the keyboard, you can get away with using it as a
master controller. But you'll want more in the end.
