If it does Paul, (and I think it does!) it is no use if the puppy is plugged into the SW1000XG 'cos there is no return path for any midi Data on the SW1k! But, AFAIK, If you have a Plugstation those nice people at Kenton have built a return path into it :-) I think you can also chuck it in the other PLG host devices, and they have a return path for the data too. Reg, Thanks for that - funnily enough though, it is Kenton who are asking me if the PLG150DX has a return path.......... Hello Paul, I have found out for sure that it does, and it has an edit buffer area as well. It's slightly disheartening that kenton don't know. Don't get me wrong, I have every confidence that they know what they are doing, they have been doing midi for years. I sure hope I haven't missed anything putting me on a totally wrong track. As far as I can see you are meaning that within the Kenton Playstation there is a return path for bulk dump requests. As you know we've discussed earlier whether there is a possibility to receive bulk dumps from the PLG150-AN, and we've concluded there is'nt any. OK, I know I'm switching from the PLG150-DX to its sister, but I think the conditions still are comparable. My question: Is it the presence or absence of a return path that decides whether bulk dumps can be performed or not. My understanding has always been that bulk dump requests simply are'nt implemented within the PLG cards. Best Regards, Lars lars.l.arnwald@...

Hi Lars, Yes, is the answer to your question. You have to be careful about the PLG card type that you buy, AFAIK it is the PLG100's that don't respond to a 'Bulk Request' message. But all of the 150's do :-) But yes, it is the Host device that determines whether or not there is a return path. SW1000XG=No Plugstation=Yes ( A Big, Big Round of applause for Kenton for working out that we needed it) Motif=Yes CS6x=Yes (I think that's the correct model number!) and there are a couple of other boxes too, I think MU100 is one of them. The PLG150-AN definitely has a return path. Hi again Reggie, Now I'm getting puzzled, I'm afraid I've missed something important. Is this meaning I can get the settings of the hardwired patches of my PLG150-AN sitting in a MU100R? That would be really great. In the earlier discussions Gary said this is not possible. Hello All, I guess I should apologise for any confusion that I may have caused in all of this, sorry, but it would appear that I am partially right and partially wrong. I emailed Nick howes at yamaha direct about what was being asked, and was told Yes basically to the questions that were asked. I have since received a further email from Nick which you should all take a look at, that should clear up some of the confusion. ------------------------------------------------------------------ I think the SW list and yourself may have got the wrong end of the stick on PLG bulking So let me set it straight 1: No SW1000XG can do any kind of request from any PLG board, there is no sysex request path (this is in the FAQ I believe anyway) 2: PLG150 cards, don't support full bulks in the way you think. They support parameter caching of the offset parameters for the easy editors only, and store these in memory locations on the board or on the hosting device in the case of Motif, CS6x etc. It is impossible to bulk request the entire status of a PLG for user parameters and complex parameters from any device. The boards are in the same way as SW, ONE WAY traffic only really. Which for computer editing is not an issue... Just so everyone is clear Nick Howes Computer Product Planning & Development Yamaha R&D Centre London --------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, I hope that clears some things up for you all. But I think point 2 raises a good question for us all: 2: PLG150 cards, don't support full bulks in the way you think. They support parameter caching of the offset parameters for the easy editors only. OK, so if the easy editors are able to retrieve this information, even if it is only offset values, then somehow there must be a way to get that data back to form that we can all read in the PC. It might not be a full bulk request, but once the offsets are back in the easy editors, then it should be easy enough to transmit them back out as a dump, which will hopefully produce the required result. See ya, Reggie
