I wouldn't dare spray any kind of paint anywhere near my synthesizer,
but there's this great glitter paint that comes in squeeze tubes
which can really brighten up the An1X. I also have some cool alien
stickers. Don't cover up the writing.

There's a guy I know in Sydney who sprayed the entire case in vibrant
yellow. As far as I remember, he masked around all the important lettered
sections. Very unique, but not my thing.

By the way, has anyone noticed the casing is crudely fitted around the MIDI
ports due to a couple of poorly positioned screws? Looking up from below,
the plastic is flexed slightly out of shape to pass over them. I thought
mine was messed with at first until I realized it's just poor design.

Well, i guess if you put it into pieces, so that you have the nacked
case without any electronics...

Hm, you did this with your AN1x?

Hey, me too. Did someone else on the list did a "circuit bending" at
his AN1x? I know this is more for analog synths, like SH101, MC202
and so on, but well...you never know.

Duh! ;)

Well this makes me wonder, why did they choose the CS1x case? Only
reason i can imagine...cost effectiveness. I guess just like with the
FS1r, and the AN1r, groups within Yamaha were fighting against each
other. But really, why shouldn´t Yamaha make synths of better
quality. I got my Nord Micro Modular on the weekend. Never had a
synth of such robust appearance and good quality. It´s like a little
tank. ;)
Oh well, businessmen. You either love ´em or hate ´em. I remember a
big discussion on a SW1000XG mailing-list about Yamaha´s politics. I
will never understand them.

Yes! I thought mine had a problem too, and I'm glad you've mentioned
it. It really is a very poor design feature. I mean, it
doesn't 'matter', but it makes you wonder what was going on in their
heads ("Hey! Let's use the CS1x case design even though I've just
noticed that it won't fit properly at the back").

And although I've heard people claim that the top is metal, mine is
most definitely plastic.

It was probably a cost-effective decision, as i already said earlier.
Marketing wise it was a bad decision, because i am sure, if they
would have given it a different (better, less CSxX)case and instead
of 8, 16 knobs, they STILL would sell it. But so, people
underestimated it very much and thought and some still do, that it is
because of the plastic outside also sounds plastic, a toy, which it
is not all. I remember the german Keyboards rated it much higher than
the JP8000...

Maybe the first ones were metal?

Now that you mention it, yes. It's about half a millimetre. But how did you
find out? I usually look at the side with the keys. :)
