An200 novice

2001-09-10 by a90@poczta.fm

Hi,
You were right saying i wouldn't reliese myself out of the computer.
The an200 editor hides a lot more. Now,
because XGwork or something is a total crap i just bought Sonar to
sequence all my stuff my question is (do not laugh):
will it be possible to use my lovely an200 with its editor through
the Sonar? Second, now i run out of money so i will take time i will
buy a midi interface - can i connect as a chain all together (an200,
esi4000, a90ex and the phat boy) or i just have to make some blow job
and buy Midisport4x4 at once?

Thanks for responding,
Piotr, Poland

Well, i don´t know about the blow job....<grin>...but you can chain
up to three MIDI-devices, which i wouldn´t recommend, because the
timing gets pretty bad at the end of the chain.
A MIDISPORT 4x4 is fine.
Maybe a MIDImerger (1 MIDI in / 4 MIDI outs) would also be usable for
you.

You're actually describing a midi-splitter here...which is similar, but the opposite..

Thanks Thomas,
That blow job was a joke Thom, but i am into music deeply so i can never say
what i am ready to do for. Sure there are some borders, i wouldn't touch an
animal. Anyway.
Thank you for your advise. It seems i am going to BORROW some cach for an
Midisport.

Cheers,
Piotr

When you buy any midiinterface..make sure you have the people at the shop PROMISE you can bring it back when you experience midi-timing issues etc... I've heard of many people complaining the midi interface causes timing erros, sysexs errors etc... Not that I've heard stuff like this about the midisport...but still...

Well, there are alternatives to MIDIman equipment.
www.musikproduktiv.de has also some other MIDI-interfaces.

Well, i did hear a lot of timing-probs about those USB-connected MIDI-
interfaces. Maybe a parallel-port (printer-port) based Interface
would fit his needs better, depends on his computer. Also there are
other interfaces on the market.

Re: [AN1x-list] Re: An200 novice

2001-09-11 by Bruce Wahler

Thomas,

Intrinsically, there is nothing unstable about the USB interface; in fact,
it's a better defined interface than any of its predecessors.

The key issue is OS support. From my personal experience, MIDIMan has the
Windows side of things well in hand. I even used my MIDIsport 8x8 to
update the OS on my KORG CX-3 organ -- two 8MB Flash ROMs, taking over 10
minutes of solid data transfer! The have released a multi-client driver
that seems to be well-built. The only complaint I have is that the
interface sometimes hangs if plugged into the PC first, then powered
up. (The other way works very well.)

On the Mac side, I have less reliable information. I have heard good
things about both MOTU and Opcode, but this is only second-hand information.

As far as I can tell, however, most (all?) of these manufacturers have
expertise on one side, little or none on the other.

Regards,

-BW
