okay, after a good while of trying different things, i think i figured it 
out.  after editing a voice on the an1x, you need to save the voice on the 
synth and then do a voice bulk dump, then request on an1x edit at which 
point when reopening the voice in an1xedit, the desired changes will be 
seen.  (finally!)

please correct me if i am wrong

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
