I want to control the volume of my EMU Vintage Keys module from the
AN1X. I set the utility so knob 1 controls master volume. Now I can
change the volume remotely. However, it shuts the volume off for the
AN1X as well. I want to turn down the Vintage Keys and solo on the
AN1X live.

Hello Rainbow, I'm not sure if the AN1x has the same facility, but on
the PLG AN it is possible to use the 'part rcv Volume' switch on the XG
host device, so, as I think the AN1x has XG part data then I am assuming
that it is the same for the AN1x.

If the EMU has the ability to either a) change the MIDI CC# of the volume
control, or b) control volume or timbre/wave level separately, then program
the knob to a controller other than CC #7 (volume) or CC#11 (expression) --
both of these are used by the AN1x to control MIDI volume.

Nope...the AN1x does not respond to any XG data. In fact in the case of
the PLG150AN, it is normally the host that is responding to the XG sysex
and not the PLG card itself (although there are some exceptions to
this).

There is no way to prevent the AN1x responding to volume (or expression)
messages. The only solution is to investigate whether the slaved device
can remap its controller response (i.e. map a different controller to
volume on the slave device). Then you can set the An1x to send that
controller. However, be careful....if you are operating the AN1x in
controller mode2, then almost every controller is mapped to an internal
AN1x parameter (so choose a controller in the range 40 - 48).

Controller Numbers

2001-07-19 by Tom Eales

Sorry, I pressed "send" before I wrote my question,
I was wondering, I tried to change the LFO speed of ther An1X from Cubase yesterday and it didn't work, I don't know wether i selected the wrong channel or wether its the keyboard, does anyone have a complete tried and tested list of these channels, which one for example changes the speed of LFO1??? ( lost my manual)
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers,
Tom P.S. I love my AN1X so much, that my girlfriend got jealous and hit it, its got 3 broken keys now, it feels like someone's knocked my baby's front teeth out. Funny, isn't it??

Err... you seem to be mixing up the terms 'channel' and 'controller'

For the An1x to receive controller data from the sequencer; it must be
configured to receive on the same MIDI channel that the sequencer is
using to send the data.

Thereafter it depends in which controller mode you are using the synth
and/or if you are using the voice Matrix.

IF you are in controller mode 1, then the An1x has no set controller for
altering LFO speed. However in controller mode 2 the AN1x uses:

CC14 LFO Reset
CC15 LFO Wave
CC16 LFO1 Speed
CC17 LFO2 Speed

Of course for each individual patch you can setup the MATRIX to map
almost any controller to LFO1/LFO2 Speed and LFO Delay (regardless of
controller mode!).

Tom,
You'll find copies of the PDF user's guide, data list, and a whole
lot more in the Files section for the AN1x-list at Yahoo! Groups:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AN1x-list/files/

This is much the same info available from the Yamaha site. You'll
find a few user contributed odds & ends too ;-)

Jon

Thank you for all the help. The EMU allows 4 controllers #1, #2, #12,
and #13, plus the pitch wheel. I assigned Knob 1 to #2 (breath
control) and am happily controling the volume of the EMU w/o
affecting the AN1x. I have to edit every single patch in the EMU but
it works.

Usually I play live with a bar band and I just use the Vox organ
sound on the EMU. The AN1x is just a controler. Now the Electric
Starlight Space Animals are working on a live show, so I have to get
a lot more sophisticated about the machines because the parts are
more keyboard intensive. The next big project is to get the volume of
all the patches about the same. Oh yeah, I have to learn how to play
and sing at the same time.
