hardware latency trouble

hardware latency trouble

2001-04-20 by G. Bravetti

Hi ppl, i have a strange trouble with my AN1x.
Actually i have a 40 ms latency when i play my AN1x.
I reset the unit a couple of times but nothing fixed.

The MIDI works fine, as a controller i have no latency.
But the internal synth gear seems to be delayed.

Thanks in advanced

Gustavo Bravetti

Is this delay happening when you are playing the AN1x with an external
controller?
or
Is this delay happening when you are syncing with an external MIDI clock to
the internal sequencer?

That's really wierd ..
When you say that you feel latency while playing , do you play in "Local On" without the loop to sequencer ? (or with Local Off routing to AN1x back with Logic) ?
In case if it's #1 then there's some problem with AN-1x , in #2 - may be with your MIDI setup (hardware or Logic's environment).

Re: [AN1x-list] hardware latency trouble

2001-04-21 by Bruce Wahler

Gustavo,

Does the problem happen with no computer in the loop? If the answer is
"no," then I suspect that there is something strange going on in your MIDI
interface software.

If the answer is "yes," wonder if this is related to the overflow problem
that I brought up a while back. I have one patch -- and only one patch --
that seems to store up notes when played very fast; i.e., if I play a
two-hand riff, and then pull my hands away quickly, I can hear some of the
"extra" notes play while my hands are off the keyboard.

Regards,

-BW

Re: [AN1x-list] hardware latency trouble

2001-04-21 by G. Bravetti

The delay happens every time the an1x sounds.

I said that is a 40 ms delay, let me explain how i find that and u will understand what part of the synth is delayed.

First i start having a latency feel when i play an1x, but i confirm that something strange was happening, beacuse all stuff i play with (and for) an1x sound bad when i quantize. i must aply a delay correction over the notes in the seqencer to solve that problem already.

to know how mutch latency an1x have i make the next:

I make a very shortly sound in an1x like a "blip" and i make a similar sound in other synth i have (supernova), then i record a sequence in logic. i send the same sequence to both synths at the same time, but they don´t sound at the exact time.
Then i adjust a parameter in logic, a delay to the part, just when the supernova part whas 40 ms forward delayed, both synth sounds at same time.

I work a lot with soft synths, so i know what latency is, and i can feel the diference between 10 ms 40 ms or 100 ms.

Is this delay happening when you are playing the AN1x with an external
  controller?
  or
Is this delay happening when you are syncing with an external MIDI clock to
  the internal sequencer?

You've got to love the 01V. :)

It's the best value for money in its class. There are myriads of functions
that I've yet to figure out, but luckily you found one for me. :)

Long life to "synth idiots".

Well,i work with synths, sequencers, etc about 10 years.

When i just read your sugestions, i descart its inmediatly.

I haven´t external fx, just 4 multi fx that are inside the pro mix 01 and the 01v mixer , and they are not insert fx, aren´t used in the AN1x channel , and they are all post now (not pre).
Any way i never use this fxs. If i need some extra fx i use software plugins.
I check this long time ago when this latency trouble begins.

OK, so i just wake up, and i remember that the 01v mixer (yamaha mix , were i have pluged the AN1x) have for each track an INSERT DELAY FX!!! a function that i never use before.
I think -"this can´t be, i never used that function"- but, lets chek it any way, so i press the delay buton and they are. A static delay of 43 ms to the tracks of the AN1x.

Well i solve my trouble thanks to u J Acker!!!
Thanks a Millon. and to the rest of the ppl too.

I never think that i can be so idiot. looking for something more complex i don´t see the simple.

pt. sorry by my english y speak spanish.

And if you don't mind help from a synth idiot (me)....you haven't by any chance routed theoutput to an INSERT type delay effect? (as opposed to a send /return routing I mean)

Also is this on all patches or only one? Does it happen if you start a new patch from scratch (using one of the defaults for regular, bass, etc.)?

  Trying to help...but I don't yet have the know-how.
