Plg-an board and a Korg Ms2000r

Plg-an board and a Korg Ms2000r

2001-03-27 by faethor@choice.net

Hello everyone.
I just purchased the PLG-AN board for my sw1000xg card, and I have to
say it's very impressive. I don't really understand it yet, but I'm
working on it :).
What I want to know is if anyone out there has a An1x/PlG-an board
and a Ms2000(r), or has exp with both.
I had a chance to play around with the ms2000r and walked away
wanting one very badly awhile back. I haven't had much time to play
with the AN board yet, so I really don't know how they compare.

Will they compliment each other, or will the PLG-an board do pretty
much what the Ms2000 can do?

I want a unit with a Vocoder and a Input for filtering my Bass and
Guitar. The Ms2000 has it but not the An1x. I have looked into the
Waldorf MicroQ, but haven't had hands on exp with it yet.

Also, quick newbie question:
How do you get the PLG-AN to work inside Cakewalk 9. Any help will be
appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Kevin

Kevin - I'd suggest you trying Access ViRUS for filtering as it got a
'famous' filter among modern VA's synths ...
I will be able to tell about that tommorow (I hope) as I've got AN-1x , ViRUS
b and bought Micro Q a week ago but it was faulty and I am hoping to get a
new tommorow back.
Good luck !
Ray.

Congrats on the new PLG150AN. Please visit the Files section and check
out the new Tips and Tricks section for some PLG150AN tips by Gary...

I suggest you search the archive for MS2000 as we've had a few
discussions on it. IMO, lovely interface - good sound - insufficient
polyphony for THAT price tag. I prefer my AN1x.

The AN1x (PLG150AN in your case) sits so well in a mix with minimal
effort on the users part - it accomanies many other synths nicely.

If you really want a Vocoder then it's not a bad idea - the MicroQ
seems to be popular with list members.

I appreciated the replies, and I will look into the Virus for the
filters. Unfortuantely, the Virus is probably too high a price right
now, which is one of the reasons the Korg looked attractive.

I checked out the Cakewalk instructions, but it seemed a bit clunky.
I had to keep resetting the synths to get the Plg-An to work
properly. I am wondering, if you wanted to use a standard patch, but
didnt need to edit it, is there a easier way to get it working within
Cakewalk 9. I know the power of the card is using the editor, but I
am wondering if I wanted a patch for bass, and didnt need the
realtime modulating, is there a easier way?

Also, I was able to get it to record bass and everything but I had to
open the An1x editor and remap the sound when opening the Mid file.
Is there a easier way to have it automaticly open the an1x sound
(like when using the Sw1000xg) when opening a mid file?

One more question. Does anyone have exp with Xgworks 3.0? Is it worth
the $100 price tag. I have xgworks that came with my sw1000xg but I
am not crazy about the interface. Is Xgworks any better? The plus to
Xgworks is everything is contained, Unlike Cakewalk, Is that true?

Again, I appreciate the time taken to answer my newbie questions.
