Problem with sending MIDI from AN1x edit to unit

Problem with sending MIDI from AN1x edit to unit

2001-03-17 by J Acker

Hi all...

Well, I haven't moved the PC into the music room, but the AN1x down to the PC to download some sounds.

I am using an SB16 soundcard (pretty cheap) using the game port with a MIDI splitter cable. I can send just fine. I can make changes and they are reflected on the AN1x display as well. Cool!

I cannot receive from the AN1x into the PC. I get an error. I do have the cables (both) hooked up, (MIDI out from the AN1x->MIDI in on PC, MIDI in on AN1x->MIDI out on PC, and I set up in the setup menu on AN1X edit. Since I am getting half of it okay I wonder what the problem could be. Is there anything you guys can suggest.

I am going ot also try and swap cables...I guess this will only tell me something if the send then doesn't work anymore.

Any hints?

Jim

The MIDI Interface built into the SB does not have a reputation for
being reliable. My advice - spend the money on a reputable MIDI
Interface from the likes of MOTU, Emagic, MIDIMAN, etc. and delegate
the SB to gaming only.

The SB is notorous for this apparently you need a midi cable that has an
opti-isolater. This can be bought from Maplins or PCWorld. PCWorld sells
Creatives own midi cable especially for the SB as they were aware of the
problem. The SB does have an opti-isolater (as far as I know) and so do
some midi cables and interfaces but they arent all compatable. My mate also
purchased a MIDIMAN interface which didnt work because of this problem.
Hope this helps
