Stupid

Stupid

2001-03-15 by Jonas Nilsson

Maybe I'm stupid but I can't understand how to use the zipped voices in the files area on the list web site. I know I've done this a few months ago but I can't remember how I did it.

How come when I open the zip files they're all empty?

Jonas,
Most, if not all, the AN1x voices in the Files section are compressed
in .zip format. The .zip format is a Windows standard that Mac users
are also able to utilize so that's what we - this mailing list - have
standardized on. The files are compressed to 1) conserve our
allocation of disk space from Yahoo! Groups and 2) expedite download
times (nobody likes to wait ;-) You'll need a copy of PKUnzip or
WinZip or an equivalent on Win machines - Mac users should download
Stuffit Expander (freeware) or ZipIt (shareware) to expand the
compressed files. A good source of freeware and shareware for most
platforms is ZDNet http://www.zdnet.com/

With the exception of some .mid (Standard MIDI File) and .syx (SysEx)
files most of the user voices are in .an1 (AN1xEdit) format as this
has been, and continues to be, the standard within the AN1x
community. If you're having problems with empty folders upon download
then I would advise you to double check which directory you are
downloading to on your hard drive - and/or - double check which
directory you are expanding the files into on your hard drive. If you
continue to have problems please post back with the specific file
names and we'll figure out what's going on.

regards,

Jon
