LFO VALUES ALMOST FIGURED OUT!!!!!!

LFO VALUES ALMOST FIGURED OUT!!!!!!

2001-03-01 by i don't have one!

after calling yamaha for the millionth time about the lfo-Hz values
they told me to use the converson table for the A3000. after trying it
out it was really off!!! nowhere close!!

anyway i realized that yamaha will never help me on this issue so i
decided to figure it out my self (and with the help of others in this
group)

i used the metronome in cubase, a sound that i created on the
plg150an(an1x) that has it's filter modulated by LFO 1 using a
squarewave. i made a note 2 bars long starting at the exact begining
of bar 1, set the tempo to 140, and used REGGIE'S plg150an MTM script
to adjust the value for LFO 1 inside cubase. i looped those 2 bars and
ajusted the lfo value untill i got a 1/4 note modulation at a tempo of
140. i made shure it was as close to perfect as possible and it is.

ANYWAY, A LFO VALUE OF 49 AT A TEMPO OF 140 WILL GIVE YOU A 1/4 NOTE
MODULATION. KEEP IN MIND THAT I AM USING GARY GREGSON'S PLG150AN
EDITOR AND REGGIE'S PLG150AN MTM SCRIPTS WHICH HAVE A LFO RANGE FROM
1-256.

NOW I NEED THE HELP OF PEOPLE IN THIS GROUP. THERE HAS TO BE SOME WAY
OF USING THIS INFORMATION THAT I DISCOVERED TO MAKE A LFO-HZ
CONVERSON CHART FOR THE PLG150AN (AN1X) SOME CALCULATION? I DON'T
KNOW? THAT'S WHERE YOU COME IN. MABYE MY INFO ISN'T ENOUGH? LET ME
KNOW.

LET'S FIGURE THIS OUT. IT WILL HELP US ALL!!!

HOPEFULLY SOMEONE WILL MAKE A CONVERSON CHART AND POST IT IN THE FILES
AREA OF AN1X LIST E-GROUP PAGE.

The reason that they both use 0-256 is because that is the Minimum and
Maximum values For Lfo speeds 1 & 2.

The way to figure it out isn't with one set of numbers, we have at the
moment only 1 choice I think, produce a sine tone at each Lfo setting
then measure the distance of one cycle. As the tables for LFO don't
appear to go in regular steps, it would seem to be the only way to do
it.

Oh yeah, I nearly forgot, given that the tempo is 140, and with the LFO
speed set to 49 you got a Quarter note cycle out of it, we can work out
the LFO rate (Hz), 60000/140=428.571428571428571428571428571429, that
gives us the length of 1 cycle in Ms.

Now to find the LFO rate in HZ we divide 1000ms by 428.57142857142857142
8571428571429 which gives us an answer of 2.3333333333333333333333333333
3333 cycles per second (Hz).

Somebody correct me If I am wrong.

See ya,

Reggie

I guess you need at least two (preferably 4) measurement points to get teh
conversion right.....i could do the math if you'd like me too...

Just curious, what is wrong with the chart in the AN1X data book?

(Page 8 in my Book titled Effect Parameter Tables, Chart 1 is titled
LFO Frequency)

I tried a few values and they don''t seem to refer to anything "real
world."

Cheers,

Jerry

Oops, found the answer:

Jon:
"I'd incorrectly assumed the LFO table in the Data List could be
applied
to the LFO Speed - but as Gary pointed out this table relates to the
LFO values for the FX parameters. "
