With a USB midi interface, i don't need to install drivers ? It's a driver-free technology ??? Drivers are only for serial and parallel interface ? Will a "Midiman USB" or other USB Midi inferface work in Windows 2000 ? jean-seb --- In AN1x-list@y..., Roland van Oorschot <rolando@c...> wrote: > >===== Original Message From jsbedard@h... ===== > >Can someone help me ? To clear things up: I've got a MidiMan Portman 2x4 and works absolutly fine with my Roland & Yamaha gear. MidiMan support told me that there will be no Win2000 drivers for my PortMan 2x4 though :( So I'm stuck with Win98 or ME. Who told you that MidiMan is shitty? I read a test of Midi-interfaces not so long ago and Midiman was one of the best and I'm happy with mine. Anyway, Windows 2000 supports USB so buy an USB midiport. When those USB ports where introduced, people where a bit sceptic about the speed-performance but I hear no negative words about that anymore. That's my humble opinion and maybe there are some guys/gals on this list who can fill us in about those USB<>speed stories. R. --- f:un[x]iun http://funxiun.2y.net http://www.mp3.com/scout303 ---

No, USB is not a driver-free technology. You still have to install drivers. >Will a "Midiman USB" or other USB Midi inferface work in >Windows 2000 ? > Windows 2000 supports USB, so when your Midi-interface manufacturer supplies Win2000 drivers, you're in. Itsasimple! ;-) I haven't checked the Midiman site (www.midiman.net) about the Win2k support yet. But if you've got nothing to do, you can do it yourself :) R. --- f:un[x]iun http://funxiun.2y.net http://www.mp3.com/scout303 ---

Damn ±@£¢¤ I can't understand how companies like Yamaha or Roland don't develop their drivers on NT or 2000 platform. What the hell is the probleme with that. If you develop a driver for 98/ME/95, it's not really hard to make the same thing for NT !!! arggght it's so cheezy. --- In AN1x-list@y..., Roland van Oorschot <rolando@c...> wrote: > >===== Original Message From jsbedard@h... ===== > >With a USB midi interface, i don't need to install drivers ? Yamaha nor Roland (read: synthesizer-manufacturers) have nothing to do with that. It's the midi-interface manufacturer who's to blame. >If you develop a driver for 98/ME/95, it's >not really hard to make the same thing for NT !!! arggght it's so >cheezy. I did some programming, and yes, it is hard. The structure of Windows 9x is totally different than Windows NT based platforms. It might have the same GUI but internally it's a whole other story. Is this accurate? If so, wouldn't it make sense for companies such as MIDIMAN to assume the larger number of potential customers would use 95/98/ME - not NT/2K? As Roland implied the time & effort spent on developing drivers for each 'platform' - even though it all Windows - requires some effort (and costs money too!) Are they going to sell enough units to develop/test/qa for each of Win95/98/ME/ NT/2K? Make sense? Jon p.s. - I noticed that Echo Audio *appears* to be on a 6-month schedule for releasing updated Mac ASIO drivers for their products. I just downloaded their latest. Funny how they seem to be in a perpetual Beta 'state'. Think they'll ever have the nerve to "commit" to a supported release level! haha ha ha ;-)

Hey, Instead of arguing - do this: If you have a problem with windows, Open a new directory install the windows 95-98 there. upon turning on your PC, pause at dos, Go to the new directory and start windows 95-98 I've seen it work before. just a little thought. that's it. Ciao
