Yeah, I typically do two things: 1) I always check the Volume level
under the VCA. I typically adjust it upwards of 127 unless I've a
multi-oscillator / duel scene voice cranked through an effect with lots
of Gain. Then I'll take a few moments to adjust the VCA Volume
accordingly. I'll often leave it set around 117 to leave some headroom
for duel sounds.

2) Check the VCO1 and VCO2 Levels under MIX/VCF. I'd recommend
sticking to the VCA Volume whenever possible rather than (mal)adjust the
VCO balance levels. This is basically the difference between MIDI CC #7
(Volume) vs. MIDI CC #8 (Balance).

Okay, but what do you play? A single note or a chord? Which note? Do you
normal it to 0 dB?

I wish the AN1x had a little boost to it, like for some bass sounds, which
lose their charm when doubled in a layer.

Well, it really depends doesn't it. With Pads and such I typically
adjust the VCA Volume upwards to taste and keep in mind that the Chorus
and Symphonic effects add a lot of gain when the balance between wet &
dry is heavily wet.

If you're programming bass or lead sounds then I'd experiment with the
Unison settings as this stacks the Oscillators and gives you a major boost.

Good point. The frequency setting is adjustable for the Low and High EQ
and the Mid is sweepable as well. Something my 7 year old Mackie 1202 lacks.

Oh, I forgot, the AN1x has EQ as well. :) I've got an 01V as a mixer, you
tend to forget these things...
