HELP! An1x is crazy. Is t here a reset?

HELP! An1x is crazy. Is t here a reset?

2000-11-03 by Richard King

Hello all. My an1x is going bonkers now. I accidently turned off
local use and nothing was coming out of it. I didn't realize I had
done this, so I started changing parameters until I found the
culprit. Now, the modulation/ribbon control is crazy. If I play a
note, it sounds ok at first, then goes haywire with random
modulation, almost as if I were going to town on the ribbon
controller. Velocity definitely makes a difference. I have not
ruled out the fact that something may be damaged, but I want to know
if there is a factory reset to being the thing back to as normal as
it can be. I'll service it after that if the problem persists.

Thanks,

Rich

To invoke the Factory Reset: Powering off the AN1x; hold down the 7-8-
9 keys simultaneously; turn the power on (while holding down the 7-8-
9 keys.) The AN1x should prompt you what you want to reset, i.e.,
Voices 1-64, 65-128, ALL, etc. - I don't recall the specific reply
for each off the top of my head.

Don't forget, a Factory Reset will erase any user edits! If there is
something you don't want to loose - back up you Voices 1st. If you
need a User Manual the .PDF version can be had from the Files section
here at eGroups.

From your problem description I would *guess* that you inadvertently
reassigned Key Position or Key Velocity to Pitch Bend or LFO depth -
something along those lines. If the problem persists after the reset
I'd email Yamaha Tech Support for help...this problem sounds like one
previously described on the list some months ago...

Good luck.

Jon

Hold buttons 7,8 and 9 on powering up, then press 3 and yes.

That don`t work...
u can`t solve it with a reset

i had the same problem....
the only solution is to replace the ribbon controller...
some models with a certain serial number has this problem...YAMAHA know this

so if u have still the warranty ( :-)..go to ur YAMAHA dealer and let them
replace the ribbon controller

So what happened? Did you call Yamaha tech support or did the reset
work for you? Doubtful, I know, but I'm still curious...

Re: HELP! An1x is crazy. Is t here a reset?

2000-11-10 by sophalicus@home.com

i had a problem with my ribbon controller about half a year ago. i
hadn't been using the ribbon much in the weeks before i noticed my
ribbon didn't work at all. then all of a sudden i realized it wasn't
working, i didn't think to do a reset nor did i talk to anyone about
it. i just figured it had died prematurely(i may have told this story
before to the list...i dunno). so i called my nearest yamaha service
center and took it over. explained what was wrong, and there it
stayed for 2 weeks. they didn't start calling me until i left a
message as to the progress they were making. so la la, i finally get
ahold of the tech, and he tells me that it was some sort of os mess
up, cause after resetting it, it works fine(he gave me the
advice...back up...and reset, i did neither, lost a lot of original
patches :(). i go down there, amidst the mess of the most analog
equipment i've ever seen in my life in one place, my an1x lay. it
works fine now, i feel embarased...since they didn't actually do any
physical work i got charged a holding fee of like 40 bucks...and to
top it off they broke off my power switch. it glued on fine, but it
has made me think twice about taking things into get fixed. so a
reset solved that. recently i had the aftertouch on the an1x freak
out....it just kept on spitting out aftertouch messages. a reset also
fixed this as well. good luck

Re: [AN1x-list] Re: HELP! An1x is crazy. Is t here a reset?

2000-11-11 by -SynthLover-

as i said earlier in this list...
i had the same problem

it was the ribbon controller which was broken...

it take me 15 minutes to go to a official ROLAND/KORG/YAMAHA tech dude
another 5 minutes to replace the ribbon controller, and about 15$...for the
new ribboncontroller...
my AN1x works great again

i forgot...it took about 1 week to get the new ribboncontroller from Japan

Re: HELP! An1x is crazy. Is t here a reset?

2000-11-11 by jondl@jdlx-musique.com

Sounds like different levels of severity to me. Maybe the reset simply
postpones the pending, and inevitable, failure of the Ribbon
Controller?

Either way - at least everybody is now aware of the possible repair :-)

Jon
