Ash,

While I know that Behringer mixers are certainly
affordable, I've heard from more than 1 reliable
source that they are of shoddy build quality.

I would recommend a Mackie. I bought at 1642 VLZ Pro
this year and really like it. It has 16 channels, so
I'm set for a while.
Cheers,

think
Behringer is very good. There's also other alternatives like soundcraft

Mackie is good, but also too expensive for my blood right now...the behringer
will just be kind of a "just for now type deal....like i said i'm not even
looking for a crapload of features, more or less just volume and EQ and
simple stuff like that so i don't need some elaborate mixer....

"While I know that Behringer mixers are certainly
affordable, I've heard from more than 1 reliable
source that they are of shoddy build quality. "

Hmmmm, well i don't really plan on moving it or banging it around much, but i
do plan on using it during live shows so i don't know, i guess i'll have to
do a bit more research on it....

can anyone suggest something decent and inexpensive besides mackie? I'll
check out the soundspirit and see what's up with that....

Thank you guys for your input,
ash

Come to think of it, the Mackies are built a little tougher, at least
externally.
If you're a gigging musician and take your mixer on the road or on gigs, go
with Mackie. If your mixer plans to be in the studio and stay in the
studio, go with Behringer and use the savings on other studio gear :)

I wouldn't worry. I think the smaller models can take it. It's the bigger
ones that I wouldn't take on shows...

Didnt' this thread get a little bigger than the 8 channel you originally
asked about, Ash? If you mean the new little silver and black desktop
thing... it's excellent for the price (~$120 IIRC). It's got panning, an
aux bus and at least 2 XLR connectors. A guy in my band just picked one up
and it's great.

Now, if you're talking about something different... please ignore the above
OT.

Hm? IIRC? What´s that?

Anyhow...Behringer is ok, they are a made in China, so in that way
kinda cheap, but hell, if it breaks...get a new one...

Some ppl. say the EQ´s on Mackie´s are better. As well as the Mic-
preamps.

An alternative would be a small Spirit mixer, or look also for the
excellence Yamaha MX12/4 (ok 12 channels but it´s good for gigging
and studio).

I have also got a Behringer 2442a & i like it a lot. I would stay away from
any of their cheaper range of FX units though. I have a virtualizer and it
is piss poor. I think their mixers have a bad rep because of the massive
price cuts a couple of years ago. A 2442a did cost \ufffd1800 now its \ufffd499 in teh
uk.
