Can I take my AN1X and use it as a controller and play VSTs live from my computer? I'm just talking about jamming in my basement, not shows.
Thank yoiu

Hi Jim, you will also need to set your VST to the same channel as your AN1x /MIDI controller too. It may be that your AN1x won't function as a fully mapped MIDI controller , meaning that the VST controls won't be fully tweakable from it but it should function as a playable keyboard/sequencer thru the VST host. Also note that some VSTs are standalone and some must be played thru a host ( DAW). Here's a link for a USB MIDI interface ( its in £ Sterling as i'm in the UK , but you get the idea of what your looking for). http://www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/M-Audio-Midisport-2x2-MIDI-Interface-Anniversary-Edition/PO?origin=product-ads&utm_campaign=PLA+Shop+-+M-Audio&utm_medium=vertical_search&network=google&adgroup=M-Audio.+All+Products&merchant_id=1279443&product_id=0924d1&product_country=GB&product_partition_id=88755975679&gclid=CjwKEAiAg5_CBRDo4o6e4o3NtG0SJAB-IatYlvjmtE4UW3U-JeZd-rdGRp7K5NTXxc-Q8GiLyymHHxoCEHbw_wcB [http://cdns3.gear4music.com/media/13/137296/317/preview.jpg]<http://www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/M-Audio-Midisport-2x2-MIDI-Interface-Anniversary-Edition/PO?origin=product-ads&utm_campaign=PLA+Shop+-+M-Audio&utm_medium=vertical_search&network=google&adgroup=M-Audio.+All+Products&merchant_id=1279443&product_id=0924d1&product_country=GB&product_partition_id=88755975679&gclid=CjwKEAiAg5_CBRDo4o6e4o3NtG0SJAB-IatYlvjmtE4UW3U-JeZd-rdGRp7K5NTXxc-Q8GiLyymHHxoCEHbw_wcB> M-Audio Midisport 2x2 MIDI Interface, Anniversary Edition at Gear4music.com<http://www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/M-Audio-Midisport-2x2-MIDI-Interface-Anniversary-Edition/PO?origin=product-ads&utm_campaign=PLA+Shop+-+M-Audio&utm_medium=vertical_search&network=google&adgroup=M-Audio.+All+Products&merchant_id=1279443&product_id=0924d1&product_country=GB&product_partition_id=88755975679&gclid=CjwKEAiAg5_CBRDo4o6e4o3NtG0SJAB-IatYlvjmtE4UW3U-JeZd-rdGRp7K5NTXxc-Q8GiLyymHHxoCEHbw_wcB> www.gear4music.com M-Audio Midisport 2x2 MIDI Interface, Anniversary Edition at Gear4music.com I use a 4 x 4 for synths/drum machines etc into my PC with both standalone and hosted VSTs. With standalone VSTs you can record straight into a wave recorder ( i.e. Audacity/Goldwave). Hope this helps Greg ________________________________

What you need is a MIDI interface and a VST host application. I've got an M-Audio M-Track 2x2M connected to my Windows 10 PC. (Haven't tried MIDI yet though, long story). - Peter

Hi Jimmy !
For the keyboard : OK, no problem, it sends all you need (note value, velocity, aftertouch...)
For the knobs : in "assign" mode (default mode when you turn your synth ON) you have to dig into the An1X menus and assign the controller(s) number(s) you need to each knob.
It should drive your software properly... but dedicated MIDI control keyboards offer a lot more knobs, pads and sliders to control virtual instruments.
Hope that it helps.
Cheers.

Hi. Just a quick note to say that cheap USB MIDI cables are ok for basic MIDI comms, but they can struggle with larger SYSEX data, which would be an issue if you wanted to use the same cable to save your AN1X patches to computer. Cheers Derek Sent from my iPad
