The dreaded hung screen on my AN1x during bootup

The dreaded hung screen on my AN1x during bootup

2015-10-09 by Philip Sharp

Hey, there, AN1x fans!

So, my AN1x screen hangs on boot-up. Off the top of my head I can't remember what the screen says when it does; if that's vital to know, I'll try it when I get home from work.

Someone suggested I buy a real Yamaha power source. Tried that. No luck!
Tried the factory reset button sequence, too.

Is my AN1x dead for good? Is it worth trying to find someone to pay them to repair it?

Also, while we're here, is there a similar list for Korg Electribe users? I plugged mine into a wall outlet in Iceland and fried it. Would love some help with that. ;)

Cheers,
Phil

Agreed !

However removing the back-up battery erases the patch memory and of course all your patches. Then you have the choice :

  • do it the right tech way, save your patches somewhere on your computer, turn off the power, open the bottom of the case and replace the dead battery
  • or the "kamikaze way" by letting the power ON (yes...), removing the bottom of the case and now the battery. It prevents the patch memory being wiped out, because it is still supplied normally, but it can be hazardous. Not for you, you'll find only low DC voltages inside your synth (i.e. 5 V) but for all the electronic gear inside. Avoid any kind of short circuit when you replace the battery, either with any tool, screwdriver, knife blade...or with the metallic battery itself.

Cheers.

I'm tooootally worthless when it comes to DIY, sadly.
I wonder how much the local synth repair shop (there's one here in San Diego) would gouge me for this...
