I think you're supposed to make a backup of your patches before changing
the batteries, just to avoid problems like these. Once the memory is
wiped, it's wiped.

Well if you're looking for the factory bank I'm sure they're on yamahas website somewhere.
If you're talking about any patches YOU made or edited, you're S.O.L. However! I know a guy that could help you. Surprisingly he too uses Airtel Negeria so he might be local to you. Unfortunately he requires a portion of your soul in return for your patches back...or your credit card info...(hmm what's of more value)
Good luck! And if you choose to go the soul trading route, you better be sure of it before you talk to it because once you hear it's voice, there is no going back!

Were there any custom patches, or were they all the factory defaults? If there were custom patches, you will have lost them forever. But the factory default patches can be easily restored as follows. In this case I would use the “Button [9]” option. (From the Yamaha site:)
Reference: Owner's Manual, p. 94-95
1) Turn OFF the power.
2) Press and hold the [7], [8] and [9] buttons down simultaneously while turning ON the power.
3) Continue to hold the buttons down until a dialog box appears on the screen displaying, 'Factory Set? [1---9]'.
4) Release the [7], [8] and [9] buttons and choose one of the following resets by pressing the corresponding button:
Button [1]: Loads Voices 1-64.
Button [2]: Loads Voices 65-128.
Button [3]: Loads all 128 Voices.
Button [4]: Loads all Voices sorted by Voice Category.
Button [5]: Loads User Patterns 1-64.
Button [6]: Loads User Patterns 65-128.
Button [7]: Loads all User Patterns.
Button [8]: Loads system data.
Button [9]: Loads all Voices, User Patterns and system data (full factory reset).
5) Press the [YES/ENTER] button. The AN1X will execute the Initialization procedure and return to ‘Play mode'.
