AN1X Silent Keys In Single Mode

AN1X Silent Keys In Single Mode

2015-02-26 by softriot@...

Hello,

I have an AN1X that's been sitting around for a few years. I used to gig with it live and then after a show in Europe it sort of konked out. I've decided to re-investigate the issue now as I'd like it to work.

Currently, for each patch on the synth, certain keys won't play in that patch and what keys those are change from patch to patch. On some patches where it's particularly bad you can keep pressing one key down on repeat. Sometimes it'll play and then on another press it won't. It's random.

I've read online that this happens in Single Layer mode. When in each patch I select the Layer mode to be Unison, it'll play all the keys within the patch totally fine.

I've seen some folks opening their synths, checking all the internal connections to see if they work and then after re-assembling it again saying it worked totally fine but that seems a bit chance to me.

If anyone out there might have a solution this let me know. FYI, I've done a Factory Reset to see if that would fix the problem but it didn't.

If the AN1X was an old analog synth I would say that the problem is obviously one or two of the voice cards have failed.

I would encourage you to open the synth up and and make sure there aren't any loose connections, maybe reseating any ribbons or chips you see.   I just bought a "for parts not working" AN1X for about $200, and all I had to do to completely restore it to was pop in a new battery and heat up the solder on one of the assignable knobs.

All you have to do is rest the keyboard on a soft surface (I put a bunch of bubble wrap on my workbench) and unscrew all the screws on the bottom.  They are all the same type screw so you can just toss them in a paper cup.   The bottom panel lifts right off and is easy to put back on afterwards.
