pitch lfo

If one were inclined, for inane reasons to want the pitch of a note to go up and down in key, on the beat, how would one do this. Should I just use the arpegiator or can I do something interesting with the lfo? I know how to sync the lfo to tempo (more or less). I want to hit one key and get an interesting pitch shifted fill. Random would be cool, as long as it's in key.
