looking for replacement display

2015-01-17 by gigakosh@...

hello group,

6 months ago i bought an used an1x with defective display. it´s not a big issue, but i´d like to replace the display. contacted ymaha support for this, they told me, they are out of stock, and there are no other compatible displays.

does anyone know any alternative source for a display? i know, i can cannibalize a defective an1x, but maybe there is a chance to get a display "stand alone"?

cheers

Hello !

Try Farnell, Radio Spares, Mouser...

I don't think this is a special LCD display custom made for Yamaha.

Cheers.

J.F.

P.S. : Happy new year to you all.

I think it very much IS a custom display for Yamaha because of the obvious fact that it is not simply dot-matrix, but rather has hard-coded glyphs specifically for its purpose. How many standard displays out there have "UNISON"/"DUAL"/"ARPEGGIO"/etc. written on them? Think about things first.

OP, in what way is your display defective? If the backlight, most people (i.e. a few I've read) just stick a few LED lights in there, and there's probably a guide/descriptin you can read somewhere.

I'm not expert by any means, but I think Yamaha may be right in this case. It looks like a dot-matrix with some custom inscriptions (Poly, Split, Arp, Edit etc.).

Re: looking for replacement display

hello j.f.,

afaik it is a custom made display, not even cs1x-displays are compatible.

but i found a some advice in the internet, that lcd displays are either completely broken or not. my display shows most segments, just the upper right corner doesn´t work. in this case, so i read, it´s most probably a matter of cable/contact or the zebra tape, because these contacts are often glued or taped, not always soldered. so opening my an1x and cleaning the connectors and tightening the tapes maybe can solve my problem.

cheers, and happy new year :)

how about we stick a microcontroller to the lcd driver chip (or before) and decode the informations beeing sent to the lcd - then do an internal work and print out to whatever displays we like. i don't think it is that hard. probably serial data over 8 bits.

any chance to get the datasheet for an1x display?

we don't even have to decode anything but rather capture the traffic and assign it to a particular display. so for instance, what happens when you increase some value - then compare to traffic beeing sent to display when chancing some other value. build an eprom database to be read by a micro and so .. we can put any freaking display we want.
