Sv: [AN1x-list] Sequencers ?

2000-08-06 by Pergamon

Hello all

I feel I have to comment on this thread. Ash, this has nothing to do with supressing individuality. This is about keeping bad language and words that can be offensive from the list. It's fine with me if you use this language and words, with friends etc etc, but I think, that what Mango was trying to tell you was, just don't use it here on the list. I don't care if this is how you are used to talk or that this brings some joy into your emailwriting, but if we all start to use bad language or offensive words, call each other bad name or whatever, the discussions well loose it's value. Keep it serious.

Hey PinheadX

I was mostly referring to the word Nazi. I understood what Ash meant when he used the word "Yamaha Nazi", but the word Nazi is very offensive to a lot of people. As I stated, it is OK for me that Ash talks/writes that way, but sometimes you got to think about who the receiver could be, where you use it and how. Imagine that you use the word in front of a person that has lost most of his family in WW2, due to a sick person which had a sick idea of a pure race. What may have started as a joke, can very quickly get ugly.

Yeah well, enough said.

Well, looks like I've seemed to cause a bit of a stir....here's the jist of
it all...

While I agree that people that use constant profanity (which i think i've
used fairly moderately) are creatons, i do feel that people that those that
have no tolerance for it at all are just anal creatures and i honestly feel
sorry for them...it must be hard to go thru life getting pis....umm, angry at
such trivial things....i just don't understand it...

"obviously you do feel the urge to dramatize and take into
extremes your statements. Well, let me tell you something then.... extremism
loses it's power over time, it's because people get used to it, while
moderation
doesn't lose anything overtime."

Obviously you like to pass judgement without getting proper information...you
know nothing about me except what i've said on this list, and if you think
this is extreme you must be incredibly sheltered because your getting the tip
of the iceburg on this list, i'm already censoring myself on this list....i
never claimed to be extreme, i never tried to be extreme, what you people
don't understand is not everyone is the same, what may be extreme to you is
perfectly normal to anothers everyday life....

"Speaking of old World War II terms, I do recall someone, when talking about
music instrument manufacturers talk about the Japanese manufacturers, and
uttering, "Well that's the Japs for you..." "

The word "japs" is a *blatent* form of racism and highly offends me, but i
kept my mouth shut on this one because i didn't want to get into a big
converation about this crap that we are doing now....

"calling and threats using vulgarity shouldn't be tolerated (there are more
intelligent ways to flame someone)."

Exactly, I never call anyone names, not something i do....

"not meaning to offend anyone, but there were a thread called "American are
ignorants""

Not to mention the thread of "Dutch smoke pot"....i'm substance free, and i
hate hearing about people smoking pot, what they did while smoking pot, and
how stupid they act when they do it-but i chose to do something that humans
have been able to do for alot longer than computers have been around....the
ability to Ignore things which i think some of us have forgotten about.....

...and now, that Nazi issue.

When i said "yamaha nazi" i meant, it must sound like i stictly stick to the
yamaha line or products, but that's not true....when i used the word nazi, i
used it as a negative connotation....i guess i can kind of see where some
people would get offended if their family were in concentration camps etc
etc, and im sorry if i offended anyone with that comment, but if it was
because you agree with the nazi ideaology and that's why your offended then
i'm glad......i did my part in the fight against racism and ignorance....

finally, i'll watch what i say so as not to offend any of my fellow
AN1xer's....(i guess this means im not going to be posting the naked pictures
of the gurl i took with my AN1x like i had originally planned....if anyone
wants them they can email me i did it as a joke because people were sending
pictures of themselves playing it and i thought it kinda got a little wierd)
so from now on i'll be walking on eggshells.....

we might as well stop talking about this whole thing now, it's filling
everyones boxes up with useless data....thanks to all of you who support free
speech...

too tired to keep writing,
ash

That's an example of how our cultures are different...I always thought that
"japs" was a kind of "gently diminutive". Here in Brazil we call them
"japas", but it's not offensive, in fact it's a common nickname of many
japanese descendant...

That's my last post about this,

Why would "Jap" be so offensive? I've always thought
it was just shortening the word Japanese. I don't
think it's any different than Brit or Yank. Just my
opinion, though.

The word seems harmless but the context wasn't. It was used by Americans to
describe Japanese people during World War II. They not only called the enemies
(The people of Imperialist Japan) "Japs" but they also called Japanese-Americans
(Most of whom were born US-citizens who were proud to be Americans and in fact
for the most part did support the fight against their corrupt emperor) "Japs" as
well, and put them in internment camps. I guess you had to be around back then
to really understand.

No one calls Japanese people "Japs" anymore. The term now means "Jewish American
Princess." (which is a term used by people within the Jewish community).
