Controlling An1x sequence tempo using Ableton

Controlling An1x sequence tempo using Ableton

2014-04-09 by <seagoon66@...>

Hi all

Just joined the group so hello to everyone.
Just wondering if any of you have managed to control your An1x sequencer using Ableton (Ableton = master, An1x = slave)... I want to synch up the keyboard with my DAW but I'm not sure how to get started. Any help would be appreciated and apologies if this has already been discussed.
cheers,
Daz

You could at least sync the tempo of the an1x with ableton.... But I'm guessing you mean doing some midi magic in ableton to change the notes at each step?

you can do it but the timing of ableton is crap for midi with audio clips
the audio clips stay perfect in time but the midi drifts out of time

What I want to do is use Ableton to set the tempo of the An1x sequencer so that the sequencer will play in time with whatever I program in Ableton eg drum patterns, other sequences etc ... I find that some of the An1x sequences are fantastic and it gives me ideas for tracks but I want to compose in Ableton and introduce the An1x whenever / wherever I need it ... I just dont know how (ie. the nuts and bolts) of how to synch them up together .... it might only have to be a few bars ... I dont plan to write a 60 minute Tangerine Dream odyssey ;-)

Interesting...I was going to start experimenting with sending notes and CC's to arps/seqs running on my AN1x

I'm still debating Cubase vs/ Live before I make the leap into computer recording tho (yeah, I'm old school ;-)

Can anyone offer insight/experience on how Cubase compares to AbeltonLive for synching (master) with MIDI arps & sequencers? Leaning towards LE versions of Cubase right now

Thanks

There's something u need to do in ableton(I think). Been using protolls lately so I can't remember.. But on the an1x tempo go down all the way until it says midi

Hi,

If you are interested in finding a good, stable VST host capable of working with Audio and MIDI, take a look at http://www.cantabilesoftware.com/

I used this in Professional guise for several years in my Pink Floyd tribute band to play backing tracks, host a VST Hammond Organ, play samples via keyboard or CC trigger (so that I could retire my old A4000 sampler) and provide a DMX controlled light show synced to the backing tracks, where the DMX controller itself was responding to MIDI in a MIDI file that played back in time with the backing track.

Cantabile handled everything I threw at it! It's optimized for stage use, so better than a DAW like Cubase in that context.

Worth taking a look at anyway, if you are looking for options.

Cheers
Derek

Hi Derek

Thanks for the info regarding Cantabile ... it looks very impressive and might just do the trick. The midi synch between Ableton and the An1x is very poor (I worked out how to link them together but they wouldnt play in synch)

cheers
