Fran, check your email
But the Rom chip used in AN1x is not the same as in Rm1x as far as I know.
Chip used in Rm1x is still available and cheap. But I didn't find chip used in AN1x.

I was easily able to update then to the latest os.
Does require a couple of members who have relevent equipment and knowledge. It was an excellent example of self help among group members.
Unfortunately, I only have version 1.02 as well.

Vadim,Thank you for the file! The file you sent is a 1mb file. This means that the eprom must be a 27C040 or 27C4001 4096k chip. These eproms are more expensive than the smaller 256k or 512k chips. No biggie it is still an easy thing to make I just need to get some more of these eproms....Thanks again, Fran

Maybe it would be a good idea to put the file in the Files section?
Thanks ;-)2014-02-12 1:04 GMT+01:00 Narfman96 - Narfland Studio <narfman96@...>:

Yamaha can be pretty over zealous on copyright. Over at EX5Tech we've always been wary of copyright ever since Ski had a "cease and desist" demand from Yamaha Japan for hosting a scanned copy of a CS15 patch chart!
The same has been true on ROMS I used to have contacts in Yamaha UK and on EX5Tech we have sought permission to program the EX5 OS (ona not for profit basis), and the answer from Yamaha was always "no".
If this were pure software, there'd be no argument. But the software is useless without the "hardware dongle"; in other words, the AN1x or EX5. So somebody in Japan needs to get his head out of his posterior.
Oddly enough, the Yamaha 01V Yahoo group has been hosting the ROM image (which you can flash yourself) for ages.

First, you can't simply upgrade firmware of the AN1x as we are all used today with devices designed with this purpose in mind. You can only change the IC (memory chip) that is where the firmware is phisically located.
Or perhaps you can flash your old chip with a proper programmer and with the right file(assuming it's a eeprom, and not just a rom, if is this the case you simply can't as is, as the name stats, read only memory), but I never seen a single file containing firmware for the AN1x in the internets, so for me don't count on that.
Best bet finding a pre-flashed one off ebay or asking Yamaha customer support.
Seems that Yamaha lost changelogs (I read that on some forum around) and seems Yamaha don't know what differencies are between the 4 subversions (1 .01, .02, .03, .04)..this is a bit sad.
For 1.04 I've found this around:
"1.04 OS corrects an erroneous 'low voltage' warning which can occur prematurely and also corrects the audio response when modulating the depth, i.e., return, of delay effects."
I don't think is either recommended or necessary to upgrade as there are minor fixes, but this is IMHO.
My is 1.02 and will stay this way.
Some questions only...
What are the differences between the ROM versions ?How to check which version is installed ?Is it recommended or necessary to upgrade ?

>What are the differences between the ROM versions ?I don(t know all the details... minor bug fixes IMHO, don't expect extended capabilities, extra waveforms or patches. How to check which version is installed ?Have a look at your user manual (sorry, i have not mine being in holidays far from home...), you have to press 2 switches when you turn the synth ON and the OS version is displayed. Is it recommended or necessary to upgrade ?If your synth works correctly, IMHO no. If you want or need to upgrade your OS it is "burned" in an EEPROM inside. It cannot be changed without erasing and re writing the EEPROM with a dedicated hardware programmer, so you have to buy one with the "right" OS either on E-Bay or similar second hand website (be careful...) or by Yamaha service. The AN1x being "old" it could be long, but you're sure thet 1) it works and 2) it is the right one...CheersJ.F.
