MIDI drivers

Thanks to everyone that helped me get my M Audio Uno up and running for Windows 8. Updating the drivers is a blindingly simple solution, but when you don't upgrade your computer for years on end, it 's easy to forget stuff.

So I recorded a dub song with melodica. The drums were midi so I slowed the drums down and played bass then sped things up to a proper tempo. I could have quantized everything, but the midi drums were played by a real drummer and I didn't want to lose the feel.

Then I trashed one of Richy's piano sounds (I added osc sync), recorded the midi, the played it back while turning the feedback, filter, and resonance.

Wonderful fun. Thanks again.

And if you never update your computer, you run more and more a risk of being hacked, and your computer sending personal details of other people, such as the people that post to this list, to the hacker. Just a thought.

Only if that computer is online of course... (and in a best case scenario, a PC for making music stays offline)

Sorry, let me be more clear. I both updated and upgraded. My old computer died, an upgrade meant I bought a computer that actually worked. A lot of my gear (like my ART USB preamp) is plug and play.Since the midi interface didn't work, I assumed the problem was either Windows 8 or the AN1X.  I forgot the Uno needed drivers, since I lasted installed drivers many years ago on my since deceased laptop. So the updating was actually installing drivers that work for Windows 8 on my new computer.

And for that, I thank the folks on this discussion group. Also thank you for the reminder to keep up with the updates on the OS for security reasons. I have some sort of happy automated thingie that reminds me to do that.

Someday I will have a computer just for recording, and I will no longer mix down on headphones..

Thanks again

Jimmy
