No sound output due to low battery?

No sound output due to low battery?

2013-04-06 by usillosptinto

Hi,

I bought an AN1x from ebay. I knew the battery was empty, but I assumed even with an empty battery I should be able to play (just not save new sounds. The first time I booted it, I did the reset (7-8-9) and it entered the main screen. I could change programs, but none produced any audio. Tried both jack and the headphones.

Is this normal? Or is the audio broken? The volume pot was broken and l lying around in the box. Packaging was pretty bad. I suspect it might have been damaged during shipping. This is in Germany, where the word 'sorry' doesn't get much use. The seller says it was ok when he shipped, and scoffed any responsability. I opened a complaint on paypal... we'll see.

Should I try to replace the battery just in case?

Of course you can but it will be useless. If you've opened a complaint
don't do nothing and keep it as it is.
Cheers.

If the AN1x looks as if it were damaged in shipping, don't make any changes to it. Have the shipper inspect it and the packaging. Very likely they might say the packing was insufficient (happened to me that way) and deny responsibility. If that happens, and the seller still refuses to man up, your next step would be to report it to eBay and claim against their Buyer Protection.

One possible problem is that the small pcb needs to be reseated. If I remember correctly, it is quite common thath this pcb gets loose. You can reseat it when you replace the battery.

I'm talking about the small board which is seated to the large board:

Do you mean the shaft is laying around in the box, with knob?

If the volume pot was turned down all the way, and broke at the base of the shaft, it may still be at zero volume, assuming the solder joints or PCB board was not compromised from the stress (cracked, etc)

You can, if you haven't, try turning it up clockwise, using a screwdriver or fine pliers, to see if you can rotate it. That might gain you some level.

If banged up in shipping, and that isn't it, loose connections in the ribbons are likely, or broken connects at the jacks or other areas, potentially.

Ebay seller is responsible for delivering you an item as stated, and if otherwise filing a damage claim on your behalf, however if they packed it poorly, then the shipper will deny the claim.

Paypal will work in your favor most times if item arrived not as described.
