Philip Glass's Birthday

Philip Glass's Birthday

2013-02-03 by spaceanimals

As Philip Glass just turned 76 a couple days ago, I thought it would be appropriate to create some instant Philip Glass music on the AN1X.

Take a nice wide augmented chord (use the 4th mode of the harmonic minor scale for some interesting harmonies) have the arppegiator on something simple, maybe just one octave, 100 bpm, set the tempo delay to som odd rhythm like 3/16, get your favorite string patch (or use a buzzy osc sync patch) and voilla--instant Philip Glass.

Now at cocktail parties you can look very serious and tell people how you're involved in electronic post classical explorations.

Take care.

What a good idea, Jimmy. Could you maybe give us a few more hints to help achieve this effect? Like what would a chord in the 4th mode of the harmonic minor scale be, say, in C? What arp mode would you set, just up one octave?

Good project!

Chris

Hey:

I used the 5th mode of the harmonic scale ( I know I said 4th) Phrygian Dominant, C Db E F G Ab Bb C, used tempo delay set to 3/16, used a osc sync patch I designed and used the Techno C arpegiator around 100 bpm (I think--just play with it until it sounds good).

So some cool chords to play would be playing C C and E with the left hand, and C F Ab and Bb on the right.
