synth locking up with an1xedit

synth locking up with an1xedit

2012-01-23 by mark

hey guys this is my first post here :) So I have my an1x hooked up to a pc running windows 7 32 bit and an1xedit wont work correctly. When I try to load a patch it just gives me sysex errors on the synth and locks up. Anyone had this happen? I really like using the synth itself for programming but I need a way to back up my sounds. Thanks.

Obligatory question: what MIDI interface are you using? By any chance,
one of those inexpensive USB-to-MIDI cables?

Hi,

Have you tried running the program in a compatibility mode for an earlier version of windows?

Note as well that, whilst this doesn't affect my AN1x, I have a problem with receiving SYSEX data from a Yamaha EX5 on Windows 7, which doesn't exist on earlier versions of Windows, so maybe there are other problems. I couldn't believe it when I diagnosed the EX5/Windows 7 issue. Definitely a backwards has been taken somewhere by Mr Gates. See this post for the issue I found

http://www.ex5tech.com/ex5ubb_cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=8&t=000491

Do you have your latest drivers for you MIDI device? Are you using a good interface or one of these cheap "usb leads" which seem to be quite hit and miss. Some people have no problems with them, but some of them have pretty small buffers that can't cope with the burst of sysex data.

If you can't get AN1xEdit going, you could do a manual dump into a tool like MIDIOX - set its SYSEX display window to receive a dump, and on the AN1x manually initiate a bulk dump, and then save it.

Or you could check out my an.factory librarian at www.xfactory-librarians.co.uk - I have this working on Windows 7, and am currently looking at OSX Lion compatibility.

Cheers
Derek

Hi all !
I have no problems with a "less than basic" USB - MIDI interface
(Prodipe 1 i/o) either with XP SP2 and now XP SP3. Never tried with
Vista or Seven... It does not need any driver. It is not the fastest
available, but i've never lost a single byte...If yours needs any
driver, try to download the latest available, maybe more "Seven compatible".

IMHO it's the first thing to test, AN1x edit is more than 10 years old...

That's the second test to do.... MIDIox is a freeware easily found on
the web that dumps, loads and displays any MIDI code. If you only want
to save your patches it's a good "spare wheel". Files are stored in .mid
form.
Cheers.

You got me :) cheap cable. I'm using the emu xmidi. After reading the other thread about this I'm pretty sure you're right. I guess it's time for midiman.

I'm going to keep this cable around because it does some neat things to the arp tx channel when routed through cubase. Like it fills up and makes notes hang. It sounds really cool.

Btw, where do you guys post tracks?

Thanks again.

Hi Mark
I am using a cheap USB midi cable wirh Windows XP
And it works with AN1x Editor
For other stuff i am using Windows XP and the EMU USB Midi Box
And it works with AN1x Editor
Windows Vista and its later versions are not interested in midi functions any more.
So it would be easier for you to install an older Windows version.
Eg on another computer or booting system.
Cheers

I post on my own websites

www.carregddu.co.uk
www.echoes-music.co.uk
www.purefloyd.co.uk

See if you can spot the AN1x (hint I haven't used it in Pure Floyd, that's Nord G2 mainly for the analog stuff, with some EX5)

Cheers
