Problem receiving and sending patches after battery change

Problem receiving and sending patches after battery change

2011-12-28 by blackwoodtebo

Hi, I just changed the battery on my AN1x and it wiped out all my patches and replaced them with gibberish patch names that made weird sounds. So I did a factory reset which worked but then I hooked it up to my computer through the midi ins and outs (hooked it up in both directions) and setup an1x editor to use the soundcard to transmit the data and when i try to send just a single patch it says receiving bulk data on my synth and continues to flash that indefinitely. Did I do something wrong? I'm really confused by what its doing now. Its not acting like it used to which is when I hooked it up to an1x editor I could see whatever patch I clicked on in the synth right away and then could just store it right in the synth by pressing the synths store button. Neither can i see the patch that i click on in the editor in the synth I also can't seem to send the pacth either. I tried doing a bulk send from the editor just to see what it would do and the editor showed the patches uploading and the synth showed that it was receiving bulk data and then when it completed it went back to the patches showing the new patch that is on that number in the editor but when i tried to scroll to another patch on the synth they all reset to the factory patches even the one that had originally changed. Tried that twice with exact same result. I have no idea what in the world is going on. Help anyone, please... Thanks.

Ok Here is an update to this weird problem. I can send a single patch from AN1xEdit to the synth by double clicking on the patch name in the editor but then it makes my whole synth go silent no matter what patch I am on, so i have to send the patch then store it in the synth and then I have to turn the synth off and back on again to be able to hear the sounds. The new patch is now stored in the synth. I can't figure out what the heck is going on. This is acting nothing like before. Could I have messed up installing the battery?
like maybe not in all the way? could something like that cause this?

Is it an "old timer" soundcard, so called "MPU401 compatible", with the
MIDI - game port (15 point subD connector on the back) ?

At a glance, no...

You're telling that it worked at least once with this configuration, right ?

Good idea..

Do you recently performed an O.S. or software update on your computer ?
Try to re install your sound card, if it is the MIDI port of your
computer (see just above..) with all its software, drivers included, and
set all the MIDI default parameters according to your actual configuration..
If it has worked once, and today not, something has changed, hardware
(less likely, if anything else goes right) or software (more likely).
If you can do the factory reset on the synth itself and everything is OK
i can't believe that the issue is in the AN1x.

Merry Xmas and

The backup battery's only purpose is to keep all the patch data in a
static RAM when the synth is off. If the battery was bad or the socket
contacts were bad, you could store the patches with the synth "on" but
loose all of them when you turn it "off".
But, to be completely confident, you can check it one more time... be
careful with the screws or any metal part, specially if it can roam
freely inside the case...:-[

Cheers.

Re: [AN1x] Problem receiving and sending patches after battery change

Hey Jeff thanks for the reply. I did have to get my audio interface repaired recently which they just ended up replacing. It is an echo audiofire 8. The midi all seems to work as it used to with my other software. This is the first problem I have encountered with it since I got it back a few weeks ago. AN1xEdit did use to work with this configuration but it has admittedly been a long time since I hooked up the AN1x to the computer for use with AN1xEdit. I have however been using it as a midi controller, for recording sounds and have used my recording software to send midi notes to the synth to then record the audio as well. I'm not sure what else I can do to configure the Audiofire 8. What is baffling me is why when I send a patch to the AN1x from AN1xEdit my whole synth goes silent and none o0f the patches will make any sounds. What in the world could cause this? It's so strange.

Have you tired performing a Bulk dump from your AN1x to any other software aside from AN!xEdit?

Have you tried swapping out your MIDI Cables for another set to eliminate the possibility of a bum cable?

Have you tried running the Echo Audiofire from another port on your computer?

I did try a different set of midi cables that also work with all my other equipment fine and got the same results. How do I change the port that the audiofire runs on? There is no option in the audiofire software to do this. Do I use MidiOx or something? Also I have set the Device Number on the AN1x to All (I also tried 1 and 16 just to be sure it wasn't this), I have no idea what this setting is for. Thanks for the help again.

I'm sorry, I didn't make myself clear... I meant running the Audiofire off a separate physical port on the computer.

We're talking about an Echo Audifire 8, yes? And you checked the latest drivers are installed?

Yea latest drivers and everything. At some point I'll try another computer I guess.
